Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Here's a rough test fitting of all the parts for my "Planet of Evil" 4th Doctor custom,

planetofevil4thdoctor.jpg

The area on the waistcoat where the paint came off will be covered as once I've got some more glue I'll stick the jacket into place in much the same fashion as the longer coat was on the "Pyramids of Mars" figure that the torso is from.

I am feeling much better about the Master judging from these pics someone took fo a display in Argos:

The Ice Warrior's arms don't look so skinny either so it would seem it's just a case of the first official images being crap.

It's good to know Argos are having the figures as I'm still working there for the next couple of weeks until my Christmas job ends and could possibly get them a bit early or failing that will have somewhere local to get them so I can save on postage.

I was talking about this wave with a guy on another site and he says it'd be fun if the inevitable "Earthshock" Cyber Leader came with a stand that had a voice chip which said "Excellent" when you pressed a button :D

Which got me thinking of the possibilities if similar stands came with the Doctors,

1st Doctor = Probably something where he says "Hmmm" a lot and starts complaining about needing to rest a while.

2nd Doctor = "Oh my giddy aunt!"

3rd Doctor = "Reverse the polarity of the neutron flow"

4th Doctor = "Hello" ( Tom makes this word sound so magnificent ) followed by "Would you like a jelly baby?"

5th Doctor = "I'm the bland one"

6th & 7th Doctors = "Why does nobody like me?"

8th Doctor = "I was in Withnail & I you know"

9th Doctor = "FANTASTIC!"

10th Doctor = A 4 hour emo-esque ramble in which he says "I'm sorry, I'm so,so sorry" at least 400 times.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Just so that you know, that photo was taken at the London branch of Forbidden Planet, not Argos.

Figures look great though, don't they?

OK thanks for the clarification, and yes the figures do look great!

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

GIMME GIMME GIMME! At least we know 7 and 8 are more or less official.

We just need some confirmation of exactly how they'll be released! ( and better pics )

I'm still a bit concerned about the future of the Classics line as a whole so hopefully some news will emerge from the UK Toy Fair which is this month.

Beyond Classic wave 2 the other rumored sets are,

11 Doctor box set
7th Doctor with TARDIS
4th Doctor ( season 18 ) with TARDIS

The Special Weapons Dalek is known to have been sculpted and pics of an Imperial Dalek that may be a legit CO version have surfaced in the background of an ebay seller that sells certain figures such as the Nu-Who Korwin months before they ever saw a release.

Hopefully there's gonna be at least 1 more full wave this year or failing that a few more FPI Exclusives that mix existing figures with all new molds eg,

2nd Doctor & Ice Warrior ( slightly retooled ) from "The Seeds of Death"
3rd Doctor & Linx from "The Time Warrior"
4th Doctor & The Master from "The Deadly Assassin"
5th Doctor & Cyber Leader from "Earthshock" ( maybe include a tiny representation of Adric's badge of excellence instead of a sonic screwdriver? )

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

No sadly. Despite being some of the better figures in the price range they just didn't take off. IMHO they are great figures but not great toys. If you look they're quite drab, all grey and black (with a couple of excpetions). I doubt they caught the kids' imagination. It's a real shame as I love my 12" CO stuff.

I can't get excited over the McGann till we can see the darned thing properly. Here's a couple of photos I took in FP just after Xmas.

I need Morbius now.

Okay, maybe a dozen each of these two too....

That is a shame. They were decently articulated, likenesses weren't bad and they really could have thrived by going thru the times of the previous Doctors. :monkey2

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Agreed. The 1:6 line is one of the scales saddest ends for a line with great potential. LOTR sad. :monkey2

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

A 12" Classics line would've been a dream come true. I was tempted by the 5" line, but they're just too damn pricey for little action figures.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

I'm glad CO stopped their 1:6 figures as whilst the quality was decent for the price the lack of Classic characters became a problem once my intrest in the current series went south.

The companies I think would do the license proud are Hot Toys, Enterbay or possibly DiD.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

Hot Toys caters to Asian auduences... no DW
Enterbay is far too pricey.
DiD would be good, but I still prefer Sideshow.

So you'd want a set of Doctors with heads that all had the same stoner expression due to piss poor production paint and badly made, ill fitting attire made from what appeared to be materials scavenged from a reject bin?

They'd make Doctors 4 & 10, a couple of baddies and then the line would inevitably go the way of so many others.............indefinitely on hold.

Re: New Doctor Who Figures?

lol... Brendan... my dear hyperbolic friend. :lol

:lol

I just don't want to see my favorite Doctor Who characters made a 1:6 mockery of the way so many of the Star Wars ones have been.

If I thought Sideshow would consistently make Doctor Who figures of the quality of ANH Obi-Wan then I wouldn't have a problem if they got the license.

And you can't deny that several licenses have gone strangely quiet with no real explanation. LOTR for example.
