Kevin Conroy is my favorite Batman. Bale is my least favorite. Though it is also partially due to the way Batman is written in TDK (I like Begins quite a bit).

Well, on the Bale VS Keaton argument I give them a tie. I enjoy both performances and both of their films. They're very different but both manage to nail it in some way.

Bale owns Batman

Keaton bats was a killer - not my definition of the ideal Batman, with no rules

Comic books, comic books, comic books.

I don't think Bale owns as Batman, in fact he's boring as hell in TDK, which is a shame. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE his portrayal as Bruce Wayne/Batman in Begins, but TDK? Not so much.

As for Keaton, he holds his own very well against Nicholson as the Joker. Yeah, he kills but so what? It's the first film version of Batman from the very end of the 80s. The best interpretations of a character are the fresh versions that stretch the boundaries (look at Ledger's Joker). Do I prefer a killing Batman? No, not really. But do I mind him killing enemies? Hell no. It's a different take. I get chills from the Batwing scene, the music, the machine guns popping up, taking out the Joker's goons etc.

Keaton's Bruce Wayne is more messed up than Bale's. Look at it this way, would Bale's Batman be any different if he didn't get to witness Joe Chill's death after the trial? Had that not happened what would Bale Bruce Wayne Batman have done? KILLED IN COLD BLOOD. If Chill didn't die, he would have shot him. Nolan's Batman would be a killer, plain and simple. If someone killed your family would you forgive them? Hell no. Batman and Batman Begins ain't no Spider-Man 3.

Keaton Wayne/Batman didn't get that luxury so who can blame him from breaking down and losing his nerve when he learns the identity of his parent's killers. It's not like he killed everyone. He could have killed the thugs on the rooftop, every thug at Axis etc. Only after did he learn the identity of the Joker did he throw his gauntlets down. Protect gotham, stop criminals, irradiate crime. It may be extreme but this Batman has had enough.

My favorite interpretation is the animated Batman made famous by Dini and Bruce Timm. The original BTAS Batman. He's not as extreme as Keaton or Bale Batman, he's just right.

Still, I love the Keaton Batman. The only thing I dislike is in Returns when he kills the strongman thug and smiles. My only gripe and the only time killing doesn't make sense.

I hate Keaton vs. Bale arguments. They're different Batman's from different circumstances. Both of them are well rounded and ____ing cool.

Every TDK scene that doesn't have Ledger in it is terrible. For me, Bale and that caricature of a voice performance just about undid all the great work that was done in Begins (if only they could get rid of that cheesy 'It's what I do that defines me' line in the next DVD release).

I'm not a huge Burton fan but think Keaton did a bang-up job. A Keaton Bats would give HT another line to pursue - I don't see why there can't be a new line introduced as well as getting Dawes and Gordon out there. Personally I'd like Alfred over them though.

Hmm, that makes me wonder. What would TDK Joker have done if he was going up against '89 Batman?

Huh, funny how here its a bad thing that Keaton's Batman killed people and over in the Terminator threads its a bad thing that the T2 T-800 doesn't kill people. Hey guys, Bales Batman is a nancyboy! j/k

I was thinking the exact same thing.

who did he killed?? Joker....oh yeah man he was out of control he had to do something!! lol and the same goes to Harvey in DK lol

Good points. I forgot about Two-Face in TDK for some reason. That ain't an accident either. GRRRRRAAHH *PUSHES DENT OVER*

They're both great. The thing that most people have to realize though is that there's actually 3 personalities to Batman. There's the playboy Bruce Wayne that pretends he's someone else so people wont know he's real identity. Then the real Bruce Wayne, who is most of the time torn because of his parents death...and then there's THE BATMAN. I think Bale is the first one to really nail all 3 characters, he was great playing all.

Now as far as simply...THE BATMAN himself, my favorite is Keaton. His interpretation was simply stunning. I couldnt even believe it the first time I saw the movie that it was really Keaton. The presence, the voice...my personal favorite.
The thing though, he wasnt really a great Bruce Wayne...I never saw him as the comic book BW. But, he's character was very likeable though, so most people just let it slide.

Its just very hard to compare cause as simply batman...its Keaton...but as far as the best all around, its Bale.

Yeah, I kind of agree. Keaton's Batman doesn't know how to be Bruce Wayne I think. He's anti-social and frankly "nuts". He doesn't know what being "normal" is and dwells on being Batman.

There isn't a playboy persona with him because he's a recluse. The reason nobody identifies Wayne as Batman is because nobody in Gotham really knows about him. He doesn't attend Dent's conference, hell, nobody even knows what he looks like. He's simply ignored by society, the way he probably likes it.

Who would win in a fight - Michael Jackson or Batman (Keaton, not Bale).

Michael Jackson doesn't/didn't kill, my bet goes with Batman.

Nothing wrong with that. I like both for different reasons also. The reason I might be partial to Keaton is because of nostalgia and the fact that Bale is kind of goofy in TDK (Not Begins though).

Just like the Terminator too (which is really silly considering it's the SAME actor. The T-850 is ridiculous, but the T1 Terminator and "Uncle Bob" are pretty much the same. I really don't get that versus argument.

I think it's been postulated (scientifically, of course), that every thread about Batman in the known internet-verse always leads to Bale vs. Keaton arguments.

I had to look at the thread title because I forgot what this thread was originally about. :lol
