Disney scrapped it to make more money. More new books and comics under the Disney name for more money. Don't act like it was because of anything else, it is for the money. Funny though how Disney is pumping out the books and comics... part of the new EU............

The real reason they scrapped the Eu was the the new filmmakers didn't wan to be hindered by 30 years of stories that only a small group of fans have ever read when they were setting out to make the new stories. The films will always come first. Every company that makes films and books and comics and toys is out to make money, I'm not sure why people get so snarky when Disney does it. Lucasfilm had no issues merchandising anything they could think of too.

Malgus didn't sell very quickly. It was still available this year - is it finally sold out now? Star Wars (movie) fans (the ones that exist in the largest numbers) don't know who Darth Revan is. Just saying.

But put aside background characters for a moment and let's remember that we haven't seen but ONE contemporary (today's level of production) release of a RotJ figure (Sideshow's Scout Trooper). Taking into account only that one movie, that's a lot of potential before any company in their right mind should consider working on any PT content. Besides, it was pretty obvious that Howard at HT likes Anakin Skywalker, yet that figure is nowhere to be seen - there must be some indication from Disney to tell them to GTFO when it comes to PT - at least for now.

The OT Star Wars films are classics and that will never change. Likewise, none of the PT will ever become a classic. That's just the way it is.

I love the prequels, but I agree they'll never become classics like the OT, I doubt even the ST will be able to do that. I don't know if Disney is really saying no to the PT, CW or even the legend characters. They are Disney's property and it'd be weird if they don't milk those cash cows. But as a smart marketing and promotion move they'll be pushing OT characters and merchandise right now since they are connected directly to the ST.

On the other hand, whether EU is Star Wars is really a subjective question, but they were never canon. George Lucas NEVER considered them as official canon. He always stated them as sort of a parallel universe of his live action films. But that doesn't mean EU didn't have an impact on the official canon of Star Wars. Crousant was originally named in the EU I believe, and Clone Wars did try to incorporate some of the EU materials into the show.

So yea, like what you like, and hope they make a good looking figure out of your favorite characters

Part of it.

Real reason is for more money. They could have easily adapted the novels into a new movie trilogy. Basically restarting everything allows them unlimited creativity.... more money.

New comic books, new novels, new figures, new kiddie books all under the Disney banner.

Unfortunately the EU started to collapse under the sheer worth of its self. Milking the cow too many times with TOR - basically stripping kotor of its coolness along with no having the courage to kill certain characters thus making them more like typical comic book Villains.
I love the EU but fate of and legacy of the Jedi were just weak. The lost tribe of the sith was a poor idea badly delivered.
That said I have no interest in the new marvel stuff. Read the first issue and hated it.
I will buy the odd book because a I'm a sucker and b its Star Wars but I feel that lucasfilm liked it too much and Disney have just continued that.

I'd never buy or read a "Star Wars" book because Star Wars is a movie franchise. If it doesn't happen in a movie I don't really care about it.

If you want collectible based on these best selling novels then write to sideshow and hot toys. They may laugh when they read the messages but they'll probably be very polite in replies. ;)

When the hell is Sideshow ever going to finish the Bounty Hunters? They've only done half of them. It's the Fellowship all over again.

I'd rather they did Dengar next. I'd love to see someone do a really badass Dengar then Zuckuss. 4-LOM is pretty boring and Medicom has already done him so he's the last one I'd get.

Dengar would be sweet--the 3 3/4 figure is one of the best. 4-LOM I always found boring, but it's a smart move if they can reuse 3PO parts plus plenty of people want all the bounty hunters.

I still don't understand the lack of Death Squad Commander/(Imperial Navy Commander). I believe more people want a complete 1st 12, than Bounty Hunters, at least at first. They need a helmet for crying out loud. Generic head, Praji uni, RFT boots....done. And it's a potential army builder. SS, get on it. Oh, and it should be a buck twenty tops.

I'll take General Veers with AT-AT field armor before Death Squad Commander.

Well jawas are coming so the first 12 are getting closer.

Have we started taking bets yet on realistic figure releases?

My guess is that after Leia, HT is done with ANH, excluding another Sandtrooper release with different colored pauldron.

For ESB I'm thinking (not in order): Bespin Han, Yoda, Lando, Hoth Leia, Dagobah/Bespin Luke

For RotJ it's trickier, IMO (again not in order): Jedi Knight Luke, Han (can't decide which), Leia (can't decide which), Lando (can't decide which), Boba Fett, Emperor, Ewok (shaky on this one - it would make sense to re-use the Chewbacca furring process on another character)

Bold are my picks for most likely

Omissions:
Snowtrooper - I don't think they'd get to this until sometime next year at the earliest, to put more distance with Sideshow's and because of their already busy schedule.
AT-AT driver - Sideshow haven't done this yet, so I would expect it from them instead, especially seeing as they're about to ship the TIE pilot - Hot Toys version a year or two afterwards
Royal Guard - which Sideshow haven't done yet either - this one may come in lieu of one from SSC, but maybe not. ;)
R2 and 3PO - they'll do them, just think they may hit TFA versions next year and need to space out from Sideshow's
Scout Trooper - too close in time to Sideshow's release, maybe in a couple of years.

I love the EU. I will never let the Disney color my opinion of anything Star Wars.

My bets on the remaining OT HT figures:

My understanding is that there is two (2) coming from Empire prior to TFA and three (3) coming from Jedi, so with that in mind...

ESB: Fett and Yoda
ROTJ: Jedi Luke, Emperor and Vader (ESB/ROTJ version with removable mask)

Now I agree that it seems strange to cannibalize on ANH Vader with another Vader but that doesn't seem to stop the Iron Man preorders (43 and 45 for example) and I'm guessing that ROTJ Vader will be the very last of the OT figures, right after Jedi Luke... and perhaps a two-pack with father and son.

Anyway, those have always been my guesses, so I'm sticking with them.

I think HT will skip Lando. He'll be the Barbossa, Reese, etc of the OT line.

Real question is: what's coming from TFA?

Rey
Finn
Ren
Han
Chewie
BB-88
New Stormtrooper
Flame trooper
Phasma
Snoke

All I might be interested in is Phasma so far. A chrome trooper with a cape might look nice on the shelf, if they get the chrome right.

No interest in the primary heroes (so far they just don't have very exciting outfits). Snoke and other creatures may be my only hope.

Tsk tsk tsk... You'll be wrong on ESB because you didn't pay attention to the insider info that was let loose a little while back. :)

Well, I know... :) ... but I'm going to call Fett and Yoda.... and guess that "the other" will be a little while later down the road after TFA. Only Vader can cannibalize.
