Announcing Vader would top Jabba... not necessarily in terms of a "set-builder" but if given a choice, I'd want Vader over Jabba. In fact, announcing Vader would also, by default, be announcing the coming of "armored" characters...and that does have endless "set-building" possibilities.

True, it would be hard to "top" Vader, but they could pull the line in different directions: vehicles, large animals, more display sets... or furred characters (with Chewbacca) or real metal robots (with the droids).

Anyway, I do believe they must "top" themselves at every SDCC. I believe that they believe this also. Its a showcase after all.

That really worries me then. If it is just something like a sweet set up of Vader with a Stormtrooper at each side, then that would be sweet and not too expensive. I just don't think I can handle a Jabba+Throne+add ons priced set up every year. Every few I guess, but with the prices for the regular figures rising and the amount of them, it is already pretty expensive.

i would love to see a 12" vader but since i have the PF i'm in no hurry and i also hope the next 12" SW is not a storm/clone trooper either because i want that in pf. i would take jabba anyday over vader 12" because of that. actually i hope the 12" SW's continue to be PT because if they make the 12" then that means we probably won't see it in PF form anytime soon after that.

That is quite a problem. The PF and 1:6 lines to compete with eachother. Lets face it, Jabba is expenisve enough in 1:6 scale. I don't think a PF version is ever in the cards! Grevious on the other hand was probably good (at least for now) to do in PF instead of sixth scale. It is hard with Popular characters like Vader and Boba. They could sell fine right now, but there still would be the competition between the lines.

Toy Fair is more for the retailers, and SDCC is more for the fans.

They don't show off exclusive items at Toy Fair, for example, because Toy Fair is for retailers--and they aren't allowed to sell the exclusives. The show is not open to the public. Sideshow will certainly announce a lot of stuff at Toy Fair this year, but SDCC is their chance to make a big splash with the fans and let them see new stuff in person. Sideshow really does a lot of selling and marketing directly to their fans, and so SDCC is naturally the high point of the year for us instead of Toy Fair. If they have a major jaw dropping release to reveal to us, I have a feeling that it will be at SDCC and not Toy Fair.

Just look at Star Wars during Toy Fair last year--with Han and Mace Windu already revealed, the only new announcement was the vinyl deformed Vader and Stormtrooper imports.

Now look at SDCC last year--we had Jabba and the throne, Bib, Leia, Salacious, the Yoda 1:1 bust, and the life sized R2-D2 and C-3PO. And the Boba Fett PF had just hit days before. So if they have just one chance to overwhelm us with Star Wars stuff in the anniversary year, I think it will be at SDCC.

I guess you have to ask yourself, is there any PF SW statue that you have now that you wouldn't get the 1/6th scale version of?

The lines do compete to some degree I guess, but, like Tom, there are many people who collect all versions of their favorite characters. The only problem is for the PF line; because of the 1/6th versions, the PFs are forced to stick with major characters. There won't be a PF Plo Koon, etc.

The PF line is limited in that way. But also due to price and size. You just can't collect that many PFs. Similarly, there will never, ever be as many 1/6th scale characters, or versions of characters, as there is in the 3 3/4" line. Size and money again.

Face it guys, Bubo is going to be the announcement. Why bother saying there is going to be an announcement and be something other than Bubo when Bubo is clearly visable on the Jabba packaing they officially showed today? Could we get a Skiff Lando and Bubo be his "expansion" pack, sure, but Bubo is still there.
That's a great point. I doubt they'd announce just another expansion pack. So it seems likely to be another Jabba's Throne Room character, and as I firmly believe we are going to have a main character next, I'd lump my money on Lando. Although I do have a sneaky suspision that they my do a Gamorran Guard soon. I think Sideshow my pick another figure already done by Hasbro, just to show how superior their figures are. If they went that root, Greedo may be high on the list, because the Hasbro verison was poor from a collectors point of view..... great toy,but crap collectable.

It would be awesome to get Lando and Bubo both on the same day but I have feeling that they may just announce Bubo since he his realease has already been leaked or we could get that snowbunny Padme that everyone supposedly wanted a year ago.

Right. That's why I think some of the bigger announcements will come at SDCC and possibly C4. TF will have a couple of announcements I'm sure but since the other two are for the fans then I think they'll use those to showcase.

I'd be fine with Lando or Gamorran Guard with the expansion pack being Bubo.

I have decided not to get my hopes up. When I do it leads to things like 5th Element bobbleheads LOL.

I'll just wait and see. I do hope it's not something we already know about like the Snow Padme or the next creature pack.

I'm hoping it's TPM Obi-Wan. That way the TPM "trio" if you will, will be complete and Sideshow can move on to other things. Vader would be nice, but unrealistic at this point. We'll soon find out!

Tonight we'll either be shocked or know that it was Bubo all along.

Patience, my friends, patience. You know, you have to know, that figures like Vader and troopers are in development. You just won't see them announced until we're 1000% proud of them, and let me tell you, there are some die-hard fanatics working on the line at the moment. The anticipation will make the release so much sweeter, I promise.

This statement makes me feel all warm and fuzzy! :chew Patience it is!

Don't forget, Sideshow has already stated the Grievous will probably never be done in 1/6, and I think that goes for some other characters as well. You can read it here if you've never read the interview:

I'm thinking though after the way Jabba came out some things like this could change.

Me thinks that Sideshow already has something planned for that day; hence Dusty's emphatic replies!!!

Me thinks waaaay to much speculation occurs in response to Dusty's emphatic replies. :D

Rocks the house anyone? :lol

If it's Bubo I will be seriously disappointed. It's not even really a character announcement. It's an afterthought item to go with the Jabba display.

Not to mention that after the Endor troops which I am NOT getting and Ventress which I am getting, I really hope for something a little more major to start the year off other than another creature pack for Jabba.

I was really trying not to get my hopes up, but come on Sideshow. Give us something worth waiting for!
