Ugh...I would have taken a 100-0 loss to the Eagles if it meant keeping Romo healthy.
You and me both.
They should still be able to keep pace in the NFC East but it's going to be an ugly couple of months.
Yup. Too many questions in the NFC East...with the way the Jets have been playing defense, the Eagles traveling to play the Jets looks to be a tough matchup. I can't believe I'm saying this, but Washington might be tough this year. After hiring Bill Callahan after he left Dallas, Washington has seemed to install a power, smash mouth running game...the same type Dallas had last year.
It always seems like there's key pieces missing for this Dallas team. Last year, Sean Lee. That Philadelphia game proved how valuable Sean Lee is. Dallas was already out their best corner, Orlando Scandrick, then lost Dez Bryant (and his foot injury might be more serious than initially indicated, some sources are comparing it to what Keven Durant went through), and now Tony Romo.
The one saving grace is that the D looks way better than anticipated. Already mentioned how great Sean Lee is, but Dallas will get back Rolando McLain, Greg Hardy, and Randy Gregory soon. And after essentially what was a lost year his rookie season, Demarcus Lawrence looks pretty good.
Obviously, they'll need to run more to get pressure off of Weeden, but unfortunately, their current backs are nowhere near as good as Demarco Murray is...we pretty much all knew it, but after two games, it's pretty obvious now: Demarco Murray's 1,800 yard season last year owed A LOT to Dallas' O line...having said that, neither Joseph Randle nor Darren McFadden have the vision that Demarco has, and most importantly, they don't have the physicality of Murray. I do like Lance Dunbar as a receiving back though...I hope they insert more packages where they have Dunbar in the backfield, then split him out wide leaving a linebacker to deal with him. Both times Dunbar ran fly routes he torched the LBs covering him. The first one should have been a touchdown, and Mychal Kendricks got knocked out of the game with a hamstring injury trying to keep up with Dunbar (ironically, it was Kendrick's injury that allowed that LB that ultimately injured Romo to get in the game).
Good lord Indy is awful.
They'll still make the playoffs. They started 0-2 last year as well. Luckily (pun not intended), they play in the weak AFC South. Had Frank Gore not fumbled near the goal line (nobody even touched him!), game may have been different.
