If the Saints get knocked out of the playoffs after their first game...they still have more to be proud of than any other team this year. Even any team that wins the Superbowl if it is NOT them.

Umm...no. There's nothing to be proud about starting 13-0 and then losing your last 4 games, including the 1st playoff game. You'll only be remembered for going in the tank.

People in the future will say, "I remember that year when the Saints started 13-0 but........"

Trust me, I know. Everyone here in Minnesota remembers the '98 Vikings and that 15-1 season. Only to lose in the NFC Championship game in overtime to a heavy underdog Falcons team.:monkey2

As far as Star Trek 2 goes "SixMillionDollarManGuy" I agree about the "over-acting". That's one of the best things about it that I still enjoy such much! Who could have imagined a Star Trek villain quoting Shakespeare? Plus looking like he could bench press Kirk with one hand? Khan will always be my favorite Star Trek villain. R.I.P. Ricardo Montalban.

Yup, Montalban's acting stole the show. The Shakespeare part was brilliant. Sadly, he left us too soon.:(

And just for fun..

Teams that have never won a SB

  • Buffalo Bills (0-4) consecutively 1991-1994
  • Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) 1982, 1989
  • Tennessee Titans (0-1) 2000
  • San Diego Chargers (0-1) 1995
  • Philadelphia Eagles (0-2) 1981, 2005
  • Minnesota Vikings (0-4) 1970, 1974, 1975, 1977
  • Carolina Panthers (0-1) 2004
  • Atlanta Falcons (0-1) 1999
  • Seattle Seahawks (0-1) 2006
  • Arizona Cardinals (0-1) 2009
Have never played in a Super Bowl :

  • The Cleveland Browns
  • Jacksonville Jaguars
  • Houston Texans
  • Detroit Lions
  • New Orleans Saints

Sadly, the Vikes most talented team was the '76 edition. We were supposed to win the Super Bowl that year. Funny, something called the Dallas Cowboys beat us in the cold at home on the famous "Hail Mary" pass. Controversial because Drew Pearson pushed off of Nate Wright to catch the pass.

Seriously, the Browns and Lions have no excuses for never playing in the Bowl because they are ol' school teams.

Well, that's fair enough, but I disagree :)

Being a fan of a loser team for so many years, I can't simply be happy with an off season. If they had a couple Superbowl wins in the last decade or so, I'm sure that it would be easier for me to share your attitude. ;)

Yeah, that whole "it's easy to say when your team is winning" argument has been used before. I find it to be insulting because it implies that you are assuming that I would be angry if the Steelers had 20 back-to-back losing seasons. That just is not in my personality. Maybe it was 30 years ago, but not any more.

Well, you are judging fans who aren't happy with whatever their team does, suggesting that they aren't true fans. I think that's as insulting as anything I've said, as I feel fans can think whatever they want about their team and still be a real fan. Bad fans are ones who throw crap on the field, not the ones who are perennially disappointed by a $h!tty team.

But in any case, I'm only saying that it is easier to do that when your team is a winner. Maybe that isn't you, but if my team was the Steelers or Patriots, I would definitely be more inclined to be swayed by your argument. Not only has your team won recently, but your team has had a history of winning. The Saints have neither of those things.

This is not some kind of new knowledge. I am fully aware that fans will dog on the Saints if they lose there next game.

But the fans will not be dogging on them because they have the right to.

Teams lose football games. The best teams in the world will lose...eventually. My opinion is that fans who key in on the mistakes instead of the highlights of the season are not the kinds of fans that I would want at my team's games if I were an NFL owner.

Being disappointed is un-avoidable. Letting that disappointment swell into anger is ridiculous.

Sorry, we live in a world where you're remembered for the last thing you did or how you finished. It is what it is.

This is a rationalization. We live in a world where we can choose NOT to do this.

I make no suggestions one way or the other. I am keying in on a single, simple aspect of fandom, and that is, what I perceive to be irrational anger that is destructive to a team that the angry fans are claiming to support. It just seems to me that no team will find motivation in a group of fans berating them to other teams' fans?

Ray Guy gets snubbed again by the Hall of Fame selection committee and didn't make the list of 15 finalists.:banghead

If they're not going to consider a Punter for the Hall of Fame or consider a Punter a football player, then just eliminate the position all together.

Arguably the best person to ever play the position and he gets no credit for it with the Hall of Fame committee.

Another football profession that gets the snub every year would be assistant coaches. Head coaches go into the HOF but assistants don't get a bit of consideration. Bobb McKittrick was the 49ers offensive line coach for 21 years and I dare say that he had almost as much to do with the 5 Super Bowl titles as Bill Walsh himself (who is like a God to me). Hell, just give assistants their own little wing. It doesn't require the full yellow jacket induction but their presence should be felt.

And I agree with you 316, Ray Guy getting the snub year after year is really sad. Speaking of kickers, I think the only full time PK to make the Hall was Jan Stenerud?

:lectureWord!

No "arguably" there. Ray Guy was simply the best punter ever. He goes back to my glory days of the 70s Raiders along with Ken "the snake" Stabler.:rock

At least you had a glory run consisting of 5 Super Bowl wins. My Vikes glory is made up of 4 Bowl losses.

:lol Dude, I'm in no way complaining. I don't care if you're a Steeler or Cowboy fan nothing could beat growing up a 49er fan when I did.... It was magic. The Steelers may have won more now and the Cowboys might be America's team but the 49ers were something to behold. It made my youth just a special as Star Wars or Indiana Jones or Comic books. I would sit in the same place on the floor for every game and watch every single snap. I cried after loses and was elated after wins... I didn't miss a half of a 49er game till I was a Freshmen and had to attend a football awards ceremony on a Monday night when the 49ers played the Giants. Got home with 8:11 left in the 3rd.... I swear I still remember the time left in the game (mind you, it was a HUGE f'n game).

I really consider myself lucky to have my favorite team be THAT good for THAT long... My point was it just seems like yesterday at times but it was really 15-30 years ago. Time just goes....

Yeah, I know what you mean about our youth. Growing up in the 70s, all that mattered was:

1. Six Million Dollar Man TV show/toys

2. Evel Knievel toys

3. Saturday morning cartoons

4. Minnesota Vikings

5. Wonder Woman starring the buxom Lynda Carter :naughty

Mmmmmmm Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman :drool :drool :drool

Replace Ray Guy with Edgar Martinez and Puner with DH and its the same thing we are thnking about here in Seattle.

And how about us dumping our coach today and looking very much like bringing in Pete Carroll... yikes.

Ray Guy was another all-time great player to come from my old Alma mater of Southern Miss. But whereas Favre will probably be given way more credit than he's due when all is said and done, I agree 100% that Guy is over-looked because of his position. Unfortunately, you are always gonna see the "sexy" positions of QB, running back, wide receiver, and to some extent, the linebackers and defensive ends on defense, getting way more publicity than others. Offensive linemen, fullbacks, and punters are so critical to a team's success, but too frequently get overlooked. It is a shame that things are that way.
