There were some stinker Sunday night games.

Even worse you have to listen to chris collinsworth.

I've grown to really like Collinsworth.

In fact, I tend to like the announcers who don't speak to the audience like it's Rudimentary Football 101. I understand cover 2 and cover 3 and man and zone and bump and run and jamming a receiver at the line of scrimmage and blah, blah, blah… treat the audience with some respect, dammit!

I'd say Gruden is my fave though... He talks REAL football.

I also like Collinsworth just fine. In fact, I don't really have issues with any of the Sunday or Monday night crews.

Yes, but you can hedge your bets a bit. Why they chose to keep the Colts/Saints game after Peyton went out is a mystery to me, though.

Monday night games against the Saints were wonderful. The NFL would bring the sheeps to the slaughter on prime time even back then... :lol :wink1:
____ Jerry Rice.

NBC pays roughly $600 Million a season for a schedule of marquee games with the ability to flex late in the season.

ESPN pays roughly $2 Billion a season for some pretty crappy games and no flex option.

I guess the takeaway is that Disney has some deep pockets and wanted NFL programming at all costs.

I can only imagine what the Thursday night package currently of NFL Network will get when it goes up for bid.

Didn't NBC get that after the ESPN too? I thought when it happened it was like WTF NBC loses bid for MNF and NFL rewards them with a cheaper better contract.

I don't see NFL network losing Thursday game, why would NFL shoot themselves in the foot by putting it to bid. They lose Thursday night game they are going to have real hard time selling network for more then pennies on the dollar to carriers going forward.

Well, as bad as the Saints were, the Falcons were just about equally bad back in those days. The equivalent of two Jacksonvilles being in a conference with the Colts all those years. Not that the old Rams were dominating the league, either, but they had some decent seasons.

Yeah, NBC got it after ESPN got their contract. I'm not sure why they gave them a sweetheart deal aside from them being a network rather than cable.

NFL Network frustrates me. We're 4 years removed from the ____storm that was the Patriots/Giants week 17 thing here in New England and most homes still don't have the network because Time Warner and the NFL can't play nice with each other. It really would make me happy if Turner, NBC, or Fox steps up to take Thursday.

The Saints had some pretty damn good teams but there were always some big holes.

Rice's numbers againt the Falcons are just silly... Close to 100 yards a game and a TD.

Aweful.... Monday night games stink. That's where NBC really has an advantage with the Sunday night slot. They're able to rotate in the best game, or best game viewer wise, of the week.

But yet they're letting the Chiefs keep their prime time slot next Sunday after the beat down they got last night. Well at least still to this point, they are. I don't know what the cut off is for flexing the schedule.

They did have a great defense for a couple of years in the early '90s, but that was sandwiched by years and years of ineptitude and mediocrity across the board :lol

Of course, we had a great kicker at one point in Morten Anderson (and Dempsey for one year), and what could have been an all-time great QB in Archie Manning, but there's only so much one guy can do. . .unless you're a Peyton Manning and essentially co-own a team so that it is completely built up to support your strengths.

And I think this season's Colts have served as a reminder to the rest of the teams as to why this is such a bad move by the Colts.

And when Peyton was at the games early on without a neck brace on I think that served to show what an idiot that man is. I had almost the exact same surgery done as he did (C-5 to C-6 and C-6 to C-7 anterior disc fusions with disectomy) and I was scared to death to be without mine, because one wrong move when it was off made my entire body go numb and tingly. But I guess him being at the games without one was better for his image than not being there and healing up properly, like most players on IR do after major surgeries.

They have to do it 2-3 weeks out if i remember right. The only exception is the final game.

Looks like on the 14th they decided to keep that game.

Rules from the NFL

The NFL will decide (after consultation with CBS, FOX, NBC) and announce as early as possible the game being played at 8:15 p.m. ET. The announcement will come no later than 12 days prior to the game. The NFL may also announce games moving to 4:05 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET.

Week 17 start time changes could be decided on 6 days notice to ensure a game with playoff implications.

The prime time ratings of MNF are usually higher than the Sunday games though, so I don't feel bad for ESPN.

That NBC flex-schedule only begins in week 10 though.

I disagree with almost everything you post on this board.

Not when he's slurping QBs. :lol The guy loves everyone. If you can't provide criticism, you shouldn't be an analyst.

The Colts/Saints game was week 7. The NBC flex-schedule only begins in week 10. They couldn't even if they wanted to, according to their contract.

the Falcons were just about equally bad back in those days.

You mean you don't have fond memories of Billy "White Shoes" Johnson? :lol

:lecture You can't underestimate the power of "Steelers Nation" in this country. NBC knows they'll get a good ratings number no matter who the Steelers play.
