Who cares if my team is out? Was there ever a point in this season when you looked at either NE or NY and thought "Wow, this team is something special, this is a great football team?" I sure didn't. It may be a good game but neither of these teams are great.
Who cares? It's a Super Bowl. They earned their right to be there. Not every SB winning team will be epic, or legendary. That's what sports is about. Yes, we have those epic teams like the undefeated Dolphins, the Bears with that insane D, the Ravens...the great Steelers of the 70s, and early Packer clubs, Montana's 49ers et.
And you also have the forgettable Bucs, and others. SO be it.
Great is subjective. I'm sure the NY fans are loving it. They are mimicking another great run like in 2007, this adds to the Boston/NE vs. NY rivalry, Manning vs. Brady... and whether you don't think either team is great, facts are, one QB involved is legendary, another is building a nice HOF career, Coughlin with a win will be HOF worthy, Belichik already is and it's a rematch of a prior game in the SB that will go down as one of the biggest upsets, if not the biggest in big game history.
You are right, never I said, "Wow, this team is something special, this is a great football team?"
But I said the same a few other times about many other clubs that wound up winning the SB that were just mediocre at midpoint or did not have epic regular seasons.
The Raiders that were the first team to win from a WC spot was such. The ARZ team a few years back that played the Steelers werent looked as a great team, but surely made it a wonderful SB with their performance vs. Pitt.
That is the beauty of sports. Who wouldve thought DEN would win the div. after their start and then go on and beat Pitt?
Believe me, the ratings will be epic with the coaches, QBs, teams involved... the game, whether a stinker or not, would be immensely successful and no one is even saying that either one of these teams with a win will go down as one of the great clubs to win a ring, like some of the above teams I mentioned.
