Was there ever a point in this season when you looked at either NE or NY and thought "Wow, this team is something special, this is a great football team?" I sure didn't. I never said there weren't interesting storylines or that it would be a bad game but 5 years for now nobody is going to put either of these teams in their top 20 SB teams of all time.

And what does my team being out have anyting to do with it? They lost 10 in a row so how could I ever even think they would have made the SB.
So what? So they should cancel the game then. No one cares. Heck, no one gives a crap about that TB team that won, and no one would ever put them in a top-10 list of greatest champs. Maybe not even top-20. But that does not lessen anything savage Bucs fans feel about their crappy organization. Same with a few other champs -- but a championship is a championship, and you only get one a year.

You don't need "special" teams to be in the Super Bowl for the game to be great.

Just a few years ago the Cardinals went in and gave the Steelers a hell of a game.

Yes, they should cancel the game because I think the teams are not great. :slap

I am just saying that IN MY OPINION this is kind of a boring Super Bowl with a couple of so so teams. Its kind of like a bad season of your favorite tv show. You still watch but it just doesn't have that lasting impact that you have other seasons.

And since I touched such a big nerve here I will not say anything else bad about the Super Bowl this season. Congrats to both teams and I hope its a good, fun, entertaining game.

And thank GOD Tampa Bay didn't hire Chip Kelly.

I think this will be one of those forgettable SB's. Both teams are pretty average at best who just got lucky / hot at the right time. I can't see the winner going down as anything special in history.
You just never know if a game is gonna be great or not based on who is there. Like Grenouille said, that Steelers/Cards game was insane! Personally, I love the playoff system we have. You get the very best teams as of the end of the season from each respective conference, determined by pitting them against (for the most part) the best of the best remaining teams. It's fun to watch of course, but at the end of the season it doesn't matter so much how teams did in the regular season, because that's not why they are playing. The regular season is a means to an end, the method of weeding out the group of unworthy teams from the smaller group of the worthy. Just because the Giants squeaked in doesn't make their presence any less legitimate. They did what they had to when they had to to get their foot in the door.

That's why I think Brady should be ranked higher than Peyton Manning on all time QB lists. Winning in clutch time matters a lot in the NFL. The Giants and Pats both proved that they are the best teams left from each conference. They earned the shot, and I'm hopeful we'll get a fun, memorable Superbowl. This is what college football should give us IMO. That's my take on it, anyway.

Those games yesterday were kind of "meh". . . The Giants looked good considering the conditions, but again not too exciting a game for me.
Whaa? You didn't think those were exciting games yesterday?? They both came down to the very end! In fact, think we've had a number of outstanding and memorable playoff games this year--Tebow magic, a crazy Saints/Niners heartbreaker (for me), and those two games yesterday where there was such parity that a single play going the other way would have meant a completely different Superbowl matchup. Just because those teams were scoring back and forth like the Saints/Niners at the end didn't make it any less exciting for me personally.

The super bowl could be entertaining for no other reason than these two teams seem to not like each other. For me not having my team takes a bit out of the game and I have a little less interest in the whole event.

I’m sure it will be a good game and the fact that they hate each other is even better but I just don’t have that WOW factor for this game. I don’t get the feeling that I am watching two great teams battle it out… it feels more like I am going to see Baylor / Washington rather than LSU / Alabama.

Let's all pray that we don't get another LSU/Alabama! I think Green Bay was this year's LSU of the NFL. Great regular season, but for whatever reason, they peaked too early and weren't able to finish when finishing time came.

well, Baylor/Washington was more entertaining at least. :lol

Thats very true so I guess if thats what I get I should be happy. Its just when you hate both teams you have to try to find something to make the game exciting and I just can't find it yet.

I get what you're saying. I don't care for either team and just want a game that doesn't suck. If the Niners hadn't gone stupid there at the end they might be in it, and the game might have sucked for people watching. However, at least my team would have been in it. :lol

Like I said last night we just need to regroup and attack again. IMO we're only 1 we away from getting past the NFC next year.

Madden, it almost sounds as if you would prefer a BCS-type system to be imposed on the NFL, so the best overall teams throughout the course of the season got the chance to play for the championship, not necessarily the teams playing best at the end. Is that incorrect? I thought LSU/Alabama was the only way to go given that the BCS is set up the way it is, but it wasn't completely satisfying as my personal preference would be to switch it around and stick a true playoff system in college. If you get a Washington against an Arkansas at the end because of it, then so be it.

If the Giants were a college team, they would have been very lucky to be in a Bowl game at all with their overall record, even if they were the best team as of the end of the season. And to me, that's not completely satisfying.

So ESPN opens Sports Center with their clip package of SB42. Yup, this will be a very long 2 weeks.:impatient:

Like I said two cruel weeks of David Tyree's catch in real time...in slow motion...in close ups...in a play by play analysis.....the sickening list goes on and on and on! :gah:

Sorry Boston fans :slap

It's not falcons fault
Not GB's fault
Not even Niner's fault

It's the Jets fault for not eliminating the Giants from the playoffs when they had the chance. Dallas didn't have a chance

One game, that's all Rex had to do...one game and the world would be happy for the SB!

  • Brady going for a 4th ring.
  • Belichick going for a 4th ring.
  • Eli going for his 2nd in the building his brother plays in.
  • Rematch of their last SB meeting, which was epic.
  • Coughlin cementing his legacy in NYC and tying Parcells for 2nd title with NYG.
  • Brady vs. another Manning, a Manning that beat him. (Seems like it was always Peyton vs. Tom, now its Eli).
  • How will NYG handle the best TE tandem in the league?
  • How will NEP control that pass rush of the Giants?
  • Sterling Moore, a Raider rookie castoff and a bunch of no-names at CB vs. the NYG deadly WR unit.

If the Giants win the SB, as far as Brady is concerned, It will go on forever in Brady's career that Eli Manning beat Brady in two SB appearances, regardless of Brady's 3 rings. The media will never let the Boston area forget it, even if Brady wins 3 more rings after that. Because this might be the second and last time in a while that we will see the Giants in the SB again, with NFC becoming the dominent league in this era :lecture

Oh no… I definitely don’t want a BCS system. I want teams to play it out instead of being “appointed” to the championship game. I guess I just can’t type what I am thinking very clearly. While the Pats and Giants earned their right to play in this SB I am just not that excited by either of them. Neither one to me is a great team. At least the last time they played the Pats were going for an undefeated season so the possibility of watching maybe the best team ever win a SB was exciting but both of these teams this year will be forgotten in 3 years and that’s just making my SB interest lacking. I am of course still going to watch but I’m going in with an overall blah mentality.

And Droog those are great reasons to watch but I hate both teams so seeing most of those happen don't really make it any better. :dunno

Oh well. I am done sulking about it. When is the draft? :)

:duh

Brady has already cemented his place as one of the all time greats.

Manning didn't beat Brady. The Giants beat the Patriots. Eli has the highlights with the throws to Tyree and Burress, but those don't tell the story of that game. The Giants defense for the first 3 quarters held the best offense in NFL history in check. They deserved so much more credit for that win than Eli and the circus catch.

I'm not disagreeing with you I know it was the Giants defense and a lucky throw by Manning, but that's not how it's perceived in the media or the press, they already are labeling it as the SB where Eli Manning beat Brady and then saying Giants win over the Pats in SB 42. :slap

I have complete faith that the Pats can beat the G men this time because they have the GRONK monster!

AFC CHAMPIONSHIP
Baltimore.......20
New England..23

1. If you would have told me that the Pats would have 3 turnovers, I'd say the Ravens win.

2. If you would have told me that Flacco outplays Brady, I'd say the Ravens win easy.

3. Hey Lee Evans, hold on to that ball.

4. Nice job Billy Cundiff! When you hook a kick that badly, the pressure got to you. YOU CHOKED!
