Saints not so saintly. Busted for running a bounty program and failing to stop when warned by NFL.

Penalties could include fines, suspensions or lost picks.

In a league supposedly concerned about safety...ha. I say make them ineligible for playoffs.

Not surprising at all. All though they didn't look as dirty this year, the previous years with Williams, and in particular that game against the Vikings they were so obviously trying to hurt people, especially Favre. I was in the thread here talking about it. Wouldn't be surprised to find some of the money went to the refs as well.

What wouldn't make sense though is to only penalize the Saints. Williams needs to carry the load on this one.

Just saw this. :rotfl

Yep, but it's always Harrison and the Steelers with hits out on other teams. See, it wasn't the black & gold, it was the black & fools' gold. Geesh!

Little confused here - don't the players on all the teams get paid to hurt people in every game?

For the most part, yes .... somewhat. BUT, when the team compensates a player beyond their contract terms for injuring an opponents player, then that is illegal.

A lot of teams do this, the whole "if you knock said QB/receiver/RB out of the game with an injury, we'll give you $1,000". Some teams, like the Saints, it's a coach that starts this, but a lot of teams have a group of players that do this, without the coaching staff's knowledge (or at least that's what any formal investigation would say).

No, you get paid to play not to intentionaly injure people and try to end their careers. There is a HUGE difference between playing hard and playing dirty.

Yes players have been known to do bounties on their own, but is way worse. This involved coaches putting money in pool (salary cap violation) documenting the bounties on paper ( just plain stupid).

If the hits were clean good plays and player gets hurt that's one thing but once money was involved you know they went a little further to get the money.

Sounds like the saints could get hammered on this. Some think they could lose multipule draft picks, lose salary cap money, fines and possible suspensions.

If Spygate is the barometer of punishment for the Saints and noted NFL mouthpieces like Peter King and Adam Schefter are saying this will be worse, here are my guesses...

-$500,000 fine to Saints organization

-$250,000 fine to Mickey Loomis

-$250,000 fine to Sean Payton

-$500,000 fine and 4 game suspension to Gregg Williams

-Saints lose 1st and 2nd round picks in 2013 draft

If they are really serious about it they would shut them down an entire season.

But that as we all know would never happen.
