I'm not exactly sure how much trouble the hawks are in with the salary cap but I wouldn't be surprised if they repeat.

They're certainly the odds on favorite. However, IF Malkin remembers how to play hockey, Fleury shows up, and Shero picks up some wingers during the off season, the Pens are still, at least in my mind, the team to beat in the East.

Despite being being a Habs fan this is a smart man :)

July 1st will be interesting

:lecture and quoting the Oilers in the same sentence with "making the playoffs" is also laughable.

Now this..yes this..is QFT.

Well, in all fairness to the Leafs, after finishing 29th, there's really nowehere else to go but up. Then again, the Oilers do still have their first round pick this year so, hmmmm, I might be speaking too soon.

We should start a pool... How many games will the Leafs lose before winning their first game? I'm going to guess 7.

:D

Heave Away is a catchy victory song, I do however prefer Dirty Water.

The Leafs will be interesting next year, I look forward to seeing if the Philsbury Doughboy improves enough to make Brian Burke not look stupid for that deal.

I say they lose 9 before there first win and that they will only win 20 games. Leafs suck!

Well the truth is the Leafs DO suck. Aside from 1993's Doug Gilmour playoff run they've been a big (better luck next year) failure since 1967.

So I was presented an interesting trade in my fantasy keeper league.

30 man league (29 men and 1 woman to be precise) with 24 man rosters (16-17 player protection lists depending how you do) ...

I am the Penguins in my league and Ottawa Presented me with a real big deal...

To Ottawa:

Evgeni Malkin

To Pittsburgh:

Jordan Eberle, 2nd overall pick in 2010 (Taylor Hall/Tyler Seguin) and two top 10 picks in the 2011 draft.

I was also offered...

To Ottawa:

Thomas Vanek

To Pittsburgh:

Jordan Eberle and a 2011 top 10 draft pick.

Here is what my roster looks like. I am in tear and rebuild mode... I used to have Martin Brodeur and the best (but aging) defence. When I won the Stanley Cup in my league I thought it would be both fun and challenging to go young and for the future. Make it a challenge vs. repeat with pretty much the same squad. I also have the best career win - lose - tie record in the league since we do head-to-head match ups each week. 3 games each week... 3-0-0, 2-0-1, 2-1-0, 1-1-1, 1-2-0, 0-2-1, 0-3-0.

Here is my current roster. I have changed the face of it since my 2009 Championship Title.

FWD NICK FOLIGNO
FWD PATRICK KANE
FWD DANY HEATLEY
FWD EVGENI MALKIN
FWD TYLER ENNIS
FWD NATHAN HORTON
FWD RENE BOURQUE
FWD RYAN GETZLAF
FWD THOMAS VANEK
FWD T.J. GALIARDI
DEF RYAN WILSON
DEF ANTON STRALMAN
DEF BRETT CARSON
DEF VICTOR HEDMAN
DEF MIKE GREEN
DEF TAYLOR CHORNEY
ENF DANIEL CARCILLO
ENF SEAN O'DONNELL
GOL CAM WARD
GOL MARC-ANDRE FLEURY
RES THOMAS MCCOLLUM
RES ENVER LISIN
RES EVGENY GRACHEV
RES TOM WANDELL

I think the Leafs will be bette this year, cant get any worse, but they still wont make the playoffs, not until they ditch Ron Wilson

I like the first deal more. Of course it's based mostly on expectations, but if things pan out over a few years it could reap big benefits as opposed to hoping Geno will be back to his '08 and '09 form.

On the surface giving up Malkin over Vanek seems like more now, but it just may be worth the gamble for the future returns.
