disagree eli. With his stats and what he brings to the table I think thats a fair amount for both sides. Maybe an even million would have been better, but he was one of their better players in the earlier rounds of the playoffs. Were paying cooke 1.75 I believe. He may have a bit better hands, but has his own issues as well.
If this wasn't a cap league I wouldn't argue this, but when you are near the cap ceiling, you need to make smart, strategic choices. Carcillo at 1 million+, who plays an agitator role that gives his team little scoring... there are many of that variety circulating in the NHL, and at a cheaper price. Albeit, not with Carcillo's offensive upside. Having said that, averaging 15-20 points as he has with Philly isn't anything to brag about. He's a guy who takes some dumb penalties for his team. All that being said, I think what he got was within the market for his pedigree of player. I would have used that money on some younger players/prospects and see how they do. They save you bundles of cash, and why not test them out now while you have the depth and experience that the Flyers have? These are new times. Teams have to be more creative and explore other options.
