Tim Thomas basically confirmed on Facebook today that he's taking next year off.

Since the the Bruins are going to stuck with his $5 million cap hit next year they need to find a team that needs to hit the cap floor. Charles Wang come on down.

I don't believe a team still gets the cap hit if a player refuses to play.
I can't see any GM agreeing to those terms.

Under the current CBA there is a clause that 35+ year old players stay on the cap. So if he sits out next year it'll still go against the cap for the B's. Marc Savard's $4 million hit can be stashed on LTIR, but with Thomas' money it could be traded to a team that needs to hit the salary cap floor. Another commodity would probably have to be traded, but they could free themselves of Thomas.

Of course all of this could be blown away by changes to the CBA whenever they decide to figure it out this summer.

Craw, wake up and smell the coffee. Tomas Vokoun is old. He's not there to replace Marc-Andre Fleury. He's there to mentor him, and give the team added insurance if MA fails, like he did in the past playoffs. They have a solid 1b/backup in Vokoun who can steal games for them that their past backups couldn't. As good as Brent Johnson was, and as good as Brad Thiessen has been at lower levels, none of them are as capable as Vokoun. Fleury is going no where. He is still their starter and the team's future between the pipes.

I can't think of any goalie who would not have looked good with the Oilers of the 80s.

No kidding. I mean look at Andy Moog and Bill Ranford. Heck, Ranford being the best example. A Conn Smyth in 1990 when they won their last Cup as the starter, and did f-all outside of being an Oiler. So yeah, Fuhr was good, but not as great as many think. He was overrated simply for being on such a dominate offensive team. You let in 3-4 goals a night? No problem! Oilers respond with 5-6 goals!

Johnson was great for us the first year. Year two however, not so much. I liked the guy, but it was definitely time to move on. Vokoun will not only give us a very solid backup to play 25 or so games, but also push and challenge Fleury to keep his head out of his ass. Given all the players that we will be needing to sign over the next two years I don't know if I like the 2yr/4mil numbers, unless this is the start of roster moves. Should be an interesting next few weeks.

We are strong in goal, offence... just need to tweak our defense... sign another guy... and hope either Despres and/or Morrow can make the team full-time out of camp, and get a healthy year out of Crosby and Letang, and we should be a top contender again... and in much better shape than even last year.

Well, when the Kings win the Cup, I hope they do so on home ice.

I have a feeling that won't happen though until game 5 in New Jersey.

I won't say they Cup is LA's just yet. Both games have been extremely close. In the past 4 years we seen two teams come back from 3-1 and 3-0 deficits to win the Stanley Cup in Pittsburgh and Boston respectively.

I don't think the series is over. A betting man would go for LA, but to ignore the recent past and say it's already their championship, is well, a bit premature and, well.... ignorant. I hope NJ surprises and wins both games in LA's building. haha

Stop thinking with your heart. It's over Eli.

Maybe... if they lose this one, it probably is. Only one team has come back from a 3-0 deficit in the Stanley Cup Final in the past 40 years. That team was Boston last year. So the odds don't look good for them at that point. NJ desperately needs that all important win tonight.

Ilya Kovalchuk... you suck. His contract alone makes plays as the major default of sucking so hard. This is all a 102 million gets you? ewww

It was only 2-0, although 3-0 would have been nice. Quick won't fold up like Luongo last year, I think this one is over in 5.

What are you talking about? Boston wasn't down 3-0.

It was... damn if I forgot and messed up. Dammit! Even I have my lapses. Gah! So it was a 3-1 deficit... can not compute... system malfunction. eeeeerp... fssssst ------------------------------------

Yeah, you're probably right. Quick is too good in these playoffs. Unlike Luongo, he wasn't pulled three times prior to the Final. HAHA

Luongo, you suck too.
