Pens got voukon

Oh really? :monkey1

Sigh... It's VOKOUN people! He's not some new kid you're learning about! He has 680 big-league games behind him! :gah:

Oh sure, I remember how many games he has played, but can't remember the Boston/Vancouver Final of last year. :lol

Just for that I'm gonna spell every name incorrectly for a week or until I forget

Craw, wake up and smell the coffee. Tomas Vokoun is old. He's not there to replace Marc-Andre Fleury. He's there to mentor him, and give the team added insurance if MA fails, like he did in the past three playoffs series. They have a solid 1b/backup in Vokoun who can steal games for them that their past backups couldn't. As good as Brent Johnson was, and as good as Brad Thiessen has been at lower levels, none of them are as capable as Vokoun. Fleury is going no where. He is still their starter and the team's future between the pipes.

Hoping they bouce Flower out of town. Mentor??? Flower is beyond mentoring, he is no spring chicken

how can they spend 2 mill on a back up, when they want to keep Staal and still have to sign Crosby? Something doesnt add up

Not beyond mentoring at all. Just because you're 27 doesn't mean you have nothing more to learn.

Most goalies don't achieve their best years until their 30's.

Look at your Lundqvists, Brodeurs, Rinnes, Kippers, Vokouns, and Thomas'... started really putting it together at around 29-30... some beyond that. Seldom do you have goalies who have several years as a starter at 27. He can learn... and I don't think this move is a hint to Flower's demise in the Burgh. The contract is 2 years, in which Vokoun will be 37. He's there to push Flower, steal some games, be an added insurance, so if he does ____ the bed again, he can still win us those important games. To think otherwise, is silly.

Also, lets keep in mind, that you don't replace a 27-year-old goalie who has multiple 40 win seasons, two Cup Finals, and a Cup for a goalie who hasn't won a single playoff series in their entire career for an aging goalie who has zero playoff experience. Past team(s) fault or not, I don't care... you just don't ignore these things.

It does add up. The cap is expected to go up again. Don't quote me on that. Either way, they need an insurance policy, and Vokoun at 2 years at 2 mill per season is a great insurance policy. It makes sense. Gives us a guy who will push the Flower and get his head out of his ass, when he gets those moments. And he gives us another guy who can take over as a starter, if need be. I like it, and feel as though this won't be a hinderance to extending/reupping Crosby and Staal.

The cap is SUPPOSED to go up, but the exact number is unknown until July 1st I believe

For once I hope your right, if we lose Staal im going to be super pissed

Beautiful goal!

*i am a Kings fan but do not condone the chanting of "Marty" by the LA fans.

Why? Because you don't like chants that are directed negatively towards one player? Or you feel that a chant of that kind should be reserved for rivals' arenas?
