See, I get this. That was my thought process. I posted this on my Facebook status and two people called him stupid, not tough. Sadly had to explain it was after the fact... Some people are eeediots.

Yeah, championships in Chi-town ain't no joke. After the Jordan years, they are far and few between. That 2010 parade was insane. I guess that's what happens when you quench a 49 year Stanley Cup drought.

Not surprised at all. It is a big chunk of change, but Vinny has been terrible for the money. I'll be very annoyed if he has a great year and shows up for the new team next year, to show he deserves big money again. It's gross when players seem to pull great/career kind-of-years out of their asses when it comes to contract years or when they want to be extended for big money. It's like, how come you couldn't do that before? Oh yeah, ease the break and coast a bit, not to get hurt. You're set for life. This is what I hate about big league sports today. Players only show up when something is on the line. No surprise that Getzlaf has a big year on a contract year or Gomez finally decides to show up after he's no longer making the big money. Heater should also be bought out.. he's been coasting far too long.

Not sure he wants to play in MTL though. He could of signed some years ago and turned them down.

He won't go to Montreal and he shouldn't.
He's still worth 5 million per. His production today, his name, and his history says he's worth that. Heck, he may even go for 6 mill. No thanks.

His buyout is going to pay him somewhere in the neighborhood of 2 mil from the Bolts. I can see him taking less than 5 to 6 mil per season with another club if that club has a legitimate cup shot.

Evidence? I've heard nothing to that effect. He's actually donated 3 million to build a new pediatric hospital in Tampa.
Maybe you're right though. Being a Pens fan you know all about greed since Kris Letang just turned down an 8 year 56 million dollar contract with Pittsburgh.
