Lets get this straight.... I can't like Roy for being a wife abuser and the other crap he does, but you can dislike Heater for making a bad judgement call... Which for your information Snyder got into the same car, knowing fairly well how intoxicated Dany was.... Okay...
It's funny how angry people are when it comes to Heatley and what he did there, yet how forgiving and understanding the Snyder family was. All charges were dropped for a reason. Maybe they got paid off or maybe, they realized that they were both kids who wanted to have some fun, which unfortunately cost one of their lives. I don't think Dany was evil for what he did. He was stupid. On the other hand, abusing a partner, is an act of evil. Doesn't mean the person themselves are, but the act is.
Not saying Snyder deserved it or Dany deserved an out, but you have to take responsibility knowing your environment. Friends don't let intoxicated friends drive... especially getting into a car with them. Responsibility has to be put on both individuals. Granted some of us have given in at one point in our lives to the whole, "I am good. I am alright..." response. If I remember correctly, Synder egged on Heater to see how fast his car could go, because he had crashed a Ferrari if my recollection of the incident is correct. I bring this up, because it's exciting to want to test how fast a car like that could go. Kids shouldn't be behind a wheel of a car they can't handle, especially in a residential area where this had happened. You want to drive like a speedster, race on a track.
What I don't appreciate concerning Dany, is his work ethic and lack of conditioning. For a guy that gets paid as much as he makes, he should be on top of that stuff. Guy has all the talent in the world and a crazy hockey IQ. Not like he lost it. He just doesn't care as much. It shows in the aforementioned faults.
Anyway, getting back to how we handle our drunk friends... It's gotten as bad as calling the Police on a friend who was drunk as a skunk. He asked me the following day if I had called the Police on him. I said of course I did. And I would do it again. That's what a friend is for. A good friend makes that judgement call if a friend isn't behaving. Better have a friend sitting in a drunk tank losing his license, rather than him killing someone (and having to live with it), and/or losing his own life. On a level of 1 to 10, my friend was a 10. He was lucky with the outcome there.
