Mike Modano wrote that they should just call Canada the winner now so everyone can have an extra week off before camps open. I don't think he's wrong.

They had a nice bounce back game last night but still have their work cut out for them. Besides taking stupid penalties and giving up way too many PPG of late, they are getting out shot in every game. They are having a hell of a time generating shots with all the new faces on the team.

Good game yesterday between the Hawks and Blues. Hawks look like they are finally rounding into form. PK has greatly improved and Crawford is outstanding in net of late. Yesterday's game was fun to watch.

The Bruins finally have fired Claude Julien. It took time, but I really liked Claude over the years. The current mess the Bruins are in are not his fault. I blame Peter Chiarelli's dumb moves after the '13 Cup final loss which resulted in his own firing. This team is going to wallow around that 8/9 spot for a long while unless Sweeney figures things out quickly.

I liked Claude and all, but the way people around New England are talking you'd think the Bruins fired Scotty Bowman and gift wrapped him for the Habs. Aside from '11, Julien teams have a way of underachieving in the playoffs or outright falling flat on their face. I do say good for Claude getting the contract he got, more than double his old salary, but I hope his teams fail miserably.

Deadline day. Habs acquiring mediocre players at a dizzying rate here. Jordie Benn, Steve Ott, Brandon Davidson, Dwight King. They can start stitching banner 25 right now.

I'm hoping the Bruins don't do anything stupid. 7-1 so far with the new regime, but it's not going to be a run in the playoffs.
