Re: Nintendo 3DS

If by 'high quality' you mean on the level of console games that average 90%+ scores you might be disappointed with the launch list. Granted, a lot of the launch games are probably not great or good, but there is fun to be had with a select few.

From what I've been reading, among the launch line-up the following (in bold) are likely solid with some being quite good. Ultimately your mileage with the launch list depends on your tastes.

* Pilotwings Resort
* Steel Diver
* Nintendogs + Cats: Golden Retriever & New Friends
* Nintendogs + Cats: French Bulldog & New Friends
* Nintendogs + Cats: Toy Poodle & New Friends
* Super Street Fighter IV: 3D Edition

* The Sims 3
* Madden NFL Football
* Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 3D
* LEGO® Star Wars III: The Clone Wars
* RIDGE RACER 3D

* Super Monkey Ball™ 3D
* BUST-A-MOVE UNIVERSE
* SAMURAI WARRIORS: Chronicles
* Asphalt 3D
* Combat of Giants: Dinosaurs 3D
* Rayman 3D
* Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Shadow Wars

We need original games, no downgraded rehashes slapped with 3D support.

I don't need to buy a launch 3DS to play pilot wings or ridge racer. And if I want to play SF4 I'll pop it in my PS3.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

You're preaching to the choir, but it's the norm for early launches to have ports of existing games. Half the Xbox 360 launch were ports or pseudo-sequels.

The DS grew blossomed within its first year of release with original games and lots of new ips and undoubtedly the 3DS will follow the same path. The way I see it, I knew I was going to buy a 3DS so I might as well get one at launch since I can.

Also, most of the games on the 3DS line-up aren't 'downgraded' from previous versions and contain the same amount or more content (the emboldened titles in my post above highlight this).

Pilotwings Resort is a sequel, not a rehash or port. The last Pilotwings game was on the N64. Steel Diver is an original game and is getting good reviews,

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Went ahead and picked up Ghost Recon today. The case and cartridge are identical to DS games..except they're white. Not sure if that's common knowledge or not. Looking forward to Sunday.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Anyone heard if Amazon will actually fulfill all of the orders they have taken for the hardware? Seems impossible they will be able to complete all orders based on past launch hardware supplies.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

At work we got in our shipment of the 3DS systems.

32 Aqua Blue
24 Comic Black

4 Blue preorders and 2 Black preorders. Should be fairly easy to pick one up on Sunday morning from TRU, not sure about gamestop though.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

I'm getting excited now. Only 51 and a half hours until I pick mine up. My local shop is doing a free raffle to win the system if you've preordered and turn up at midnight. Just hoping not many ppl turn up so I stand more of a chance. I never win anything though.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Well I stopped by Bestbuy today to get a copy of Crisis 2 and saw that they had a 3DS on display. I was shocked at how cool the 3D was on it. It was some flying game but it was still cool to see it in action. I'm still gonna wait on the PSP2 to make a decision.

Unless you've only just recently pre-ordered I'm sure you'll get one from Amazon within the first week of release.

Actually, I'd bet that it'd be pretty easy to get a 3DS within a month or so of its release. The Wii supply didn't go dry immediately and I don't think it'll happen with the 3DS either. But a couple months down the line that's when we'll see it in short supply.

Me too! I went to buy a copy of Crysis 2 and couldn't help but stop by the 3DS kiosk to play again. One thing that dawned on me this time is how much I dislike the blue color.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Cancelled my 2nd 3DS order from Amazon. I originally ordered one of each just in case. I sure hope I don't regret this choice next week.

The blue did look a little weird at BB. It almost looked like a sea green but all the vids of the blue system were a much deeper and richer truer blue. I'm hoping it was just the super harsh lighting of the store...

Re: Nintendo 3DS

I'm looking forward to going to Walmart at midnight on Saturday. That way I can use my store discount.

The store I work at was only guaranteed 8 3DS units, so I'm hoping they'll have enough for me since I don't plan on going any earlier than 11. If not, no big, I've had one preordered on Amazon just to be safe.

Re: Nintendo 3DS

3DS launch deals and promotions:

Toys R Us: Buy 1 Get 1 50% Off on all 3DS games, starting Sunday.

Gamestop: +2500 Powerup points (in-store only?)
Kmart: buy a 3DS, save $25 instantly on any 3DS launch game
Best Buy: FREE $10 Gift Card with purchase of ANY two 3DS titles
Target: pre-order, get $5 gift card when system is purchased
Walmart: Free Flex case

Re: Nintendo 3DS

Amazon just matched the K-Mart deal

It's a fair bit better if you're in a state where Amazon doesn't charge tax. They're also doing an offer where if you buy one 3DS game, you get a $10 credit towards another. So they've basically matched Best Buy on that one too.

Seems like there's some decent promos for launch, good stuff!

Damn, that rocks. Guess I'll be getting a game after Amazon ships my system. Maybe I'll get SSF43DE afterall.
