I think you underestimate how big of a deal Mario Kart is.

Mario Kart is a system seller which the Wii U needs. Mario Kart Wii sold 34 million copies.

Yeah Mk64 is still the best, but the Mario Kart games still sell like hot cakes. Mario Kart 7 for the 3ds was so good and I guarantee the new Mario Kart will be even better. It is a system seller and it will move units even if it isn't as good as the 64 version. Nintendo will start selling alot more units this coming fall/winter with the already known games coming out. It's just a matter of time just like the 3ds.
