Yep. I imagine that atheists in general will avoid it because at first glance it looks like a "Bible movie" and Christians will avoid it because its so wildly divergent from the actual story. I'm guessing it'll be another "Robin Hood" for Crowe and will come and go with no cultural impact to speak of.

I don't think it works this way. We had our share of big "blasphemous", hollywood movies in the past, and I don't remember any of them floping at the box office. Christians will see it even if only to hate on it, and non believers will see it too, simply becouse its a big blockbuster that takes a "non-canon";) version of a biblical story story and lets one of the most known directors working today have a spin on it. It surely doesn't look like your run of the mill, cheap, christmas story special.

Its a movie based on one of the most well known fables of our civilisation. The cinemas will be flooded :)

As for the cultural impact - like I wrote before, the "spin" on the Noah myth is certainly interesting and has the potential to make this movie uniqe, but with Aronofsky its a 50/50. Either way, at least it won't be bland.

I didn't say it will flop. I said it will come and go without much impact. Even the outcry over The Last Temptation of Christ is a mere footnote now and that was a movie about Jesus himself. I think Noah will be much ado about nothing. That's my hunch anyway.

Agreed. Teemu and Kit Fisto causing an uproar may be laughable to some but it will make others pay closer attention to what they're watching and compare it to Scripture. Did anyone get upset about that Bible miniseries that aired last year? I know some Christians loved it but my goodness, talk about a wolf in sheep's clothing. This movie isn't pretending to be anything but a re-imagining of the Genesis account. That miniseries, on the other hand, didn't make it clear what it was trying to do.

I don't think any Christian wanting to see this movie is wrong for wanting to see it. I don't think filmmakers should not be allowed to portray the events how they want for their movie. Even if it was 100% accurate to the words of Scripture, someone would have a problem with something portrayed. Let it be what it is and leave it at that.

Maybe you should move to Saudi Arabia.

Trouble came here. The thread is tainted. I just wanted to talk about how interesting this movie is going to be. But apparently that's "blasphemous."

Alright. Let's do it.

The fact that this film goes off the path of the original story, and has scenes where Noah has to deal with
Giant Demon Monsters
really makes me want to see this. They're doing an adaptation of a classic story. A re imagining. And that's intriguing.

Also, the whole idea, if this is correct, that Noah
chose not to bring anyone aboard because he hates humanity
is such a ballsy idea, that it just might work for the story.
