I think this is a great idea... I always wanted my elected officials to also act as my personal dietician. Does Bloomberg own a s-load of stock from some company that specializes in large bottled juices? What a joke....

I agree with you Devil, in that politicians are, for the most part, not great thinkers who act on principle and in the best interests of their constituents. Instead, they are power hungry, petty little people who only want to be elected and re-elected, and other perks like women and money. But that's a microcosm of society as a whole.

But I'm confused on this--you hold traditional academic education with disdain, and as the basis for many of our problems, but say that education is the solution to all of our ills. What would this system of education look like, and what would be taught? And how would an educational revolution that leads to such a significant change in our educational system occur? If the necessary condition to your proposed social/political/economic/whatever change is a change in education, but the education system can't be changed without massive social upheaval. . .then where is the room for optimism.

And how could you force people to learn things--People hate school--without somehow impinging on their rights to not be educated?

Good questions. Give me a minute.

What I'll say right now is that you cannot force a mind to learn. You can shut it down and fill the vacuum with an irrational ideology, but you can't compel it to understand the truth (presumably, a rational ideology).

I see no problem with it. Those or obscene size drinks, however to allow milkshakes of that size makes no sense they have even more calories. Sure people shouldnt be forced to being better but it's obvious people aren't going to change and would gladly just keep taking bigger sizes. That would be great if we could force people who have no respect for their body to pay MUCH higher health care prices but no, all of our costs go up because people have no care about how their diet affects their health. So I am all in favor that giving these people a legal push even if it's only letting them get 48oz drink instead of 64oz.

The tubbies will just order two drinks now.

With free refills I don't get the need for sizes to begin with. Save your company money and offer one size cup.

I was under the impression that this was a law that was actually passed in San Francisco and still applies and that the law suit attempted to spread the ban to the entire state but was thrown out by a state judge in San Francisco.

Did I get that wrong?

I was passing through SF this past weekend and purchased Happy Meals for the kids at the one on Market. Both came with Madagascar toys. :lol Though, they've replaced the small fries with a tiny carton that maybe carries 5 fries and have included apple slices (which they've been doing for quite a while now). Back in Jan, same scenario with Burger King who also supplied toys with their meals. :huh

I have the right to be fat.

Sure but you don't have the right to make me pay more for my heath insurance because you want to be a fat azz. So until they make you pay way more then I do because you want to be fat, I have no problem limiting your ability to be a fat azz.

From what I hear the restriction of super size is the least of the US problems. I haven't been there but apparently your takeaway meals are massive compared to here, but you should have the choice to restrict yourselves and not be forced

Fast food is the same in every country. And though it shocked me, I read that Australia is right up there with the US and Britian when it comes to obesity. Some studies even show Australia on top. Hopefully your politicians aren't the joke that our's is and thinks that making drink cups smaller is the solution.

:cuckoo:

I also think that grocery stores should be eliminated as well. That way once a month the government can send us what they decide is okay to eat.

When the government used to hand out free food years ago, it was big bricks of cheese and bags of white rice!! :lol

They make way too much money bilking the tobacco companies to restrict it any more than it already is. Between taxes and the state lawsuits from the late 90's, they know they have too much to gain from people continuing to get sick and/or die.

Is our government still subsidizing tobacco farmers?

So I guess they should also ban cigarettes, alcohol.......let's see.....red meat.......ummm........driving in a car...

anything else?

Weight age and all that other good stuff gets considered when buying into health insurance. So fatties do pay more. It's them getting into government programs that you have to worry about.

Doesn't health insurance already do that? Aren't there incentives for healthy lifestyles and penalties for having risk factors?

If your issue is paying more for health insurance, then move to Canada. Hear they have free health service

LOL...I was reading up on it and apparently the law still applies, but McD's has found a way to get around it. I guess that must be it.:lol
