McCain's best move is to put the female governor of Alaska Palin on his ticket and try and pick up some of Hilary's huge following. We'll see how he plays it today.

Did he mention his support of Partial-Birth Abortion?

It's a little more complicated than that. He voted against a federal ban but he supports states' rights to enact their own bans. I think the genie is out of the bottle on this issue and it's never going back in. I bitterly disagree with Obama on the most recent FISA bill but this election is bigger than a single issue for me - especially an issue that isn't going to change no matter who's in the White House.

Plus I don't see how he could cut taxes yet go crazy and do all of that crap he claims he will do.

The tax cut for the middle and lower classes is largely balanced by a tax increase on the rich and the closure of corporate loopholes and subsidies.

If McCain picks Mitt Romney tomorrow

I am very sad to say it, but this country is not voting for a Mormon.

I think that will really hurt him as that 49% could possibly jump ship and vote McCain.

Why would you vote for someone whose views are diametrically opposed to your own?

I thought he was full of hot air and promissed way more than he could ever deliever. Plus I don't see how he could cut taxes yet go crazy and do all of that crap he claims he will do.

Getting us out of the spend crazy war business in Iraq is a great way to find the money. :monkey1

Remember folks that there are alot more people than just the president involved in policy change. A president can have the best ideas and intentions to have it squashed by congress.

Honestly, I don't particularly agree with alot of Obama's political positions, but I will say that he says the word change enough that even someone as cynical and jaded as myself wants to believe it. But I refuse to let myself believe in another republican or democrat.

Jimmy Carter anyone? :monkey3

I just wish when people would speak they would think. When do any of these people give details? They don't. They give ideas. Ideas don't become actions. They are what they are. Let's hope that one day ideas will come to action. It has yet to happen.

Exactly and that's why I don't understand the Obama bandwagon at all. People are acting as if he's going actually GIVE you "hope and change". He's a great speaker and people are eating up his words like they will actually become action.

I, like most people can't stand W and can't wait for his term to end, but it's annoying that Obama's entire campaign is based on "hope and chage". McCain is NOT 4 more years of W. I am not a big fan of McCain either, but I'd rather see him in office since he actually has some exp unlike Mr. Rock star.

What would you have him speak of? Doomsday?

No, I'd actually like him to say something other than "hope and change" though. It's the easy way to run a campaign when the public hates the current President. I can't wait for the debates so he actually has to say SOMETHING other than "I am different than Bush".

I am reserving judgement eith way until the debates myself. I don't know what I am doing. :dunno

The point of a convention speech is not a debate though. It's to rally his party. I'm not naive enough to think for one second that everything he said to be truth, and I certainly don't hang on his every word. Like you I also don't get the level he's being elevated to (and people think The Dark Knight hype is bad). But this thread was started just to acknowledge his speech last night, not as a debate, but as the purpose it's supposed to serve for his party and that it was very inspirational and refreshing to hear. I too look forward to the debates though and McCain's VP pick is a brilliant move on his part.

Have you seen his voting record?
Have you seen Obama's?

I'm not talking about media soundbites and talking heads. I mean actually sat down and looked at them yourself. McCain is W and Obama is change. The records are clear on that fact.

All Obama has been doing the ENTIRE campaign is having a rally party. I know this thread is not about a debate, but Obama annoys me because of how people react to his words that say little to nothing of merrit. He's running Clinton's campaign and the people are eating it up.

I just wish people would actually wait until the debates and see WHERE he actually stands on actual issues before jumping on his bandwagon because he offers "hope and change". Some change isn't always better. I agree we need a change from Bush and thank God one is coming, but most people are just party sheep who only vote one side of a ticket EVERY time. I actually pay attention to the debates and see where these guys stand on real issues instead of all the smoke blowing so many people seem to eat up.
