You know, I think one of the issues also is that some of the sculpt details are lost due to mass production techniques. If you look at his hair/eyebrows there is much more defined detail in the proto, and on the skin there is detail as well. I think it would possibly look better if the details like that were kept better, but I don't think that's possible with how they are manufactured.

Also, I have a question, if I get someone to repaint the head better, do you think that will lower it's value? I don't want to do anything to a figure that might make it worthless.

obi-wan looks amazing, can't wait to have him face off against my sith anakin. (finially got my blue cathod sabers working, so face off time)

Well, I'm going to be one of those who thinks the paint apps could be better, but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. It's certainly not the end of the world.

Anyway, Wor-Gar, I look forward to your kitchen pics.

Wor Gar, thanks for those crops--they show some more texture to the hair than some of the other shots. I am waiting to see how mine looks when he arrives this week (hopefully). My other figures don't photograph well--you take a picture and the hair looks like one solid flat color, but then you look at the figure you just shot and you see variations in the paint job that aren't in the picture. It's a mystery.

I know that between the camera, the lighting, the work done in Photoshop, and the settings on my monitor, pictures that I take can end up looking quite a bit different than the real thing. I have learned to wait and see what the real thing looks like when I unpack it.

This reminds me very much of the latter Anakin prod pics as far as paint apps, it was pretty damn close to what we got, darker hair, eyebrow paint apps, deco lips, etc. I don't think any of these new prod pics can "correct" the darker tones we are going to get. I'm guessing this is probably the same Anakin (hair) color paint scheme and probably the same factory paint apps crew.

And don't forget that most photos are close-ups that are a lot larger than the real thing. I think that makes a difference too.

Obi-Wan is not going to look exactly like the early prototype photos. That is not really a surprise to me--the mass production painters in China will never make them look exactly like the prototypes done in house at Sideshow.

However, the fact that he is not going to look like the one I saw on display in San Diego is more of a bummer, since I thought that was a production piece. I don't think mine will look bad, just not quite as good as he could have. Of course, if I had the option of paying Medicom RAH prices and getting a better paint job, I don't think I could afford it and still be a completist. So all things considered, I think that I will be satisfied.

I'm certainly not going to get upset before actually having the figure in hand.

I'm hoping its even better in person. And I hope you get yours this week so we can put this to rest, one way or the other. I'm curious to see how this figure in hand will compare to your SDCC pictures.

The Mace ones are up already. :D

Yes, I too will leave my opinion open until I see him with my own two eyes in the flesh.

You must be jokin me,

It is a very big disappointment for me.
I ordered one regular and one exclusive and am thinking to cancel this seriously

...or at least not for a price most people will pay.

I see it like this also. But... it would be so sweet if final product Obi would look like the SDCC Obi... Guess that is really impossible for the price we pay.

Well, the pics look rough BUT, I think it's gonna be a "don't judge it until you have it" case, that's how it usually is. But dang yo! Them eyebrows! Whatup SS with those eyebrows?

I think judgeing from the new pictures it looks bad (nothing like the SDCC pictures, where it looked to be the best in the line), what is up with those eyebrows? I got out of this line anyway after Anakin's arm fell off for the 9909870343047 time.

It's just amazing how much complaining can be done without a single person here having the figure in hand. I am in no way a SS appologist and am not happy with the recent pics but at least wait to get the figure before you start tearing it apart. We were all killing Han's likeness when the pics came out, and I haven't heard anything be compliments since he started shipping. Chill out peeps.

Han's likness still looks like the pictures to me. and yes i do have him.

The more I look at the High Res pics the more I like what I see. The hair isn't quite as lite as what the protos is but it's not nearly as off as the smaller pics look. I also agree with Tom that I think once you see it in person some of the detail lost in the pics we see (mine included) can bee seen by the naked eye.

I agree with DL. It's hard to damn a piece without having seen it in person though right now that's all we have to use. Which is cool. I have no problems with it. What cracks me up is folks commenting on how bad it looks yet they aren't collecting these at all. Why bother?

When working on the human figures, maybe Sideshow should give them a picture of the actor in costume or stills from the movie and not their painted prototype. Would that make a difference?

Looking forward to WOR-GARS KINKY KITCHEN!!!!

I have to agree with Josh-1. The more I look at those high-res pics the more I am digging this figure.:D  :D
