Exactly!

Besides, Obi-Wan > Anakin. Not only the character, but the sculpt.

Offering a repainted replacement Obi head is not that big a deal, they should eat the cost for this to retain the trust of their client base...

They won't, but I hear you.

I just can't believe they $#!@ed up Obi-Wan. Of all characters and all sculpts!! :monkey2 :banghead

Not that big of a deal? Eat the cost? On something only two people have actually seen in person.

I really think some of you guys are jumping the gun just a bit condeming this piece.

Josh, you are not hearing us correctly...

We're not "condemning" the piece entirely or saying it's the worst affront ever thrust upon mankind. But we ARE pointing out that these production pics show apparent problems with the paint apps that even SSC admitted were also there on the Anakin figure.

Now, add to that the fact that the sculpt is just awesome and the protoype shown at SDCC was the best 12" Obi-Wan ever imagineable and how can you NOT be disappointed in what you've seen so far in the production images? Like I said before, the drop-off is so drastic that it's jarring.

And to top it all off, this figure was already delayed 2-3 months due to Quality Control issues. There should be NO EXCUSES this time.

There are now three threads all about how Obi-Wan looks, and the same comments keep getting said over and over. It's like being on a merry-go-round. Some of you need to get a hobby... oh, wait... I mean a new hobby.

I agree with Batty. I am getting a head-ache bouncing back and forth from thread to thread.. These need to be combined into one thread.

Ye Mods, dost thou hearest me?

I for one am not condemning this piece, I am addressing a repeated paint apps problem @ SSC and there is a huge difference... people love this character, loved the proto, loved the display piece and we get something different by all accounts, just not that bad, but still wrong.

There is no question that there is a paint apps issue here and that is all I am addressing unless of course there is no inconsistency between the proto, display and production piece... 50% of those polled see the difference and have expressed their disappointment, time to acknowledge it, correct it and move on, not suppress, censure or delude the facts at hand.

I still don't understand that "production pieces will never look as good as prototypes" philosophy.
You just need to take a look at DML prototypes and the production pieces: they are identical, no changes in the paint apps.
Same goes for the Luke and Vader figures I've bought from Medicom (and yes, there are paint apps).
And the point is Sideshow's paint apps are not as good as stuff that is coming out from other 1/6 companies, like DID, DML or BBI. And those companies are not charging you more than what Sideshow does.
That, of course, in my very humble opinion.

Obi Wan looks pretty good to me and I'm happy to have him on pre-order. But I do believe the paint apps are not up to par with the companies I mentioned above.

dude,IMO DML,meds and BBI have lower production runs.therefore a better paintjob.
trust me,i've seen bad jobs for med figs, even the eyes on the med jack sparrow, even robocop....
wait till the figs in yr hands.

:lol At least I'm not the only one who thinks that way! All the cheers and jeers need to stop. Let's face, none of us actually have it at yet! Because once we actually do have the figure at hand, we'll all be out of comments. :D :rotfl

In yours and a few others it might be drastic and jarring.[/QUOTE]

Ah-ha! Now this looks closer, right?

With the exception of the beard -- with those weird gray highlights -- and the obviously thicker paint apps on the skin and eyebrows, this may be a better comparison.

As you said, Khev, lighting has everything to do with it. Strong overhead light will make his hair look lighter. The Chinese paint apps are clearly thicker on the prod piece, but this is much closer than that other picture floating around.

The production is much closer to the TF piece for sure the more I look at those shots. If I remember right everyone loved it then. Funny how time changes. :lol

Great comparison Wor-Gar. I, for one, am not overly disappointed by the prod. paint job. I think its comparable to the TF pics in everyway but one (the eye brows being the only thing that is bad IMO).

:D

That's the thing... I do have them on hand: Anakin and Luke.
Both have poor paint apps, although Luke is by far better than Anakin.
Wait, let me rephrase that: not poor, just not up to par with the aforementioned companies, IMHO.
Not too sure about the production runs though, I was under the impression that DML had pretty high production numbers, but I could be wrong.
Besides, if their production runs are smaller, they do a hell of a job keeping them at a decent price point (Medicom, obviously, not).
Look, I'm not bashing Obi or Sideshow, I'm just pointing out that other companies with similar products have a better proto to production balance and better overall paint apps, and that there is no reason we shouldn't expect SST to deliver a product that is up to par with their competitors.

Except that Sideshow charges 1/2 as much.... :monkey3
