Seriously? I thought the entire theme of controlling nature was lost about halfway into the film. Grant finds some eggs, and that's it. The discovery makes you think "Hm, okay", whereas in the novel you're like "Holy ****!" I mean, I loved the film as much as the next guy, but that doesn't mean I'd stop myself from seeing someone else's interpretation.

Never heard about the graphic novel. Is it based on the film, book, or something totally original?

.

It was going to be a whole new thing from what I understand..it was Brett Booth who was interested..but it just cost too much. I did try to get him to help out on a project that JP Legacy is working on right now...and we still have that fan film to look forward to.

About the time when the dinosaurs break free of their constraints, start devouring people, and we find out that some of them have problem-solving intellect and are breeding? ;) The theme of man's inability to harness nature is the movie.

Brett Booth is the man. Too bad he had such a bad experience with DA...

I agree. I also think that even though they used dinosaurs it was a reminder that we humans better not get too cocky. Take away our cars, our houses, our guns and such and the animals can kick our collective asses.

Yeah, DA can be a real PIA at times..he just had enough of it. He did set up his own page though : https://carnosauria.blogspot.com/

Maybe Sideshow will use one of his concepts for a piece.. ;)

No, no. LoL. I'm talking about the fact that the animals were escaping from the island. Three films, and not one of them touched upon this terrifying facet of the original story (San Diego doesn't count). The idea was that we never had control, as Sattler said. Everything was mostly good until Nedry turned against them, and even then, the threat was confined to the island. That's the major difference, for me.

i got 118/350

i love this piece....its really awesome just wish it were a wee bit bigger!!

So what's the consensus on the ex so far? 125 or 150?

Definitely 125.

Oh I completely agree. The "nature run amok" theme of man being incapable of reigning in nature's savagery is definitely there, but it's to the extent that the animals are claiming dominion over the island, viscously and unrelentingly wresting this microcosm ecosystem from man's grasp. Spreading beyond the confines of the island, though, wasn't addressed. Largely, probably, due to the lysine contingency which remained in play for movie audiences until it was addressed in the sequel. It would have been nice for Compsognathi to have been seen skittering through Costa Rican streets, snatching small pets, farm animals, and human infants. In this manner, a greater weight could have been added to the threat posed by human interaction with these animals creatures. Still something we could address with a sequel. Let's all just pretend JPIII didn't happen, and forge onward from there! That's what I say! :D

I've copied over some of these great reviews and piccies to the Review Forum so there is easy access to them :rock :duff

Awesome, Shell! Nice to have a good, solid grouping of the reviews and pics for the Carno! :rock

I think dinosaurs snatching babies from cribs may be a bit much for audiences. :lol

Given how much money the industry is making by releasing continuous "torture porn" garbage movies, I don't think the audience would suddenly turn prudish.

By the way Scar, you are the only person I know who refers to plural dinosaur species with an -i suffix. Why is this? (Response must be in less than 1000 words. :D )

My Carnotaurus came today and as previous posts have stated, it does not dissapoint.:horror I have put it in my curio cabinet, right next to the Rex vs Tric dio.
My pics do not do this piece justice, but I thought I would show how I have it displayed.

I know I'm going to sound like an idiot...but what is torture porn? I'm guessing that its not actual porn since that wouldn't have an impact on what they do or don't do in a JP movie.

I couldn't be happier (though I still pale in comparison to Scar) to see the Dinosauria Thrall grow, and wait until we get the Deinosuchus! :rock

Firstly, the form is the correct Latin, but secondly it's not something one should ever use in formal journal writing. For extinct species, we don't have vernacular names, which makes them awkward when translating them into modern speech. Reason being, there is technically only one "Tyrannosaurus" or "Carnotaurus", referring to the the taxa. ^^^^ sapiens in the plural form = humans, Canis lupus = wolves, Rattus norvengicus = brown rats, Panthera leo = lions, and so forth down the line.

Many people have proposed going through and giving a vernacular name for each and every dinosaur, but the idea has met with resistance since it goes against Linneaus' original intention, which was to apply one universally applicable name for a species, regardless of a speaker's native tongue. Since we don't have vernacular terms for extinct animals, it's not something that is ever done in formal writing for the scientific community, but in casual conversation, really most anything within reason is acceptable. I'm sure my old Latin professor would insist on using "sauri" as the plural of "saurus", whereas one of my Vertebrate Paleontology professors would use such terminology when speaking but insist never to see it in papers. It's really to your preference, though I will say that I will always refer to T.rex in the vernacular plural as "Tyrannosaurs", which is also considered acceptable, but for no particular reason. The more you know! :D
