Just got home from seeing it and I must say that I really liked it. I did not care too much for Liv Tyler but everything else was right on. Marvel is having a good year and is finally back to making decent movies.

Good Marvel Flicks = Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, X-Men, X2, Spider-Man

So-So Marvel Flicks = Spider-Man 2, Fantastic 4, Blade

Bad Marvel Flicks = Daredevil, The Punisher, The Hulk, X-Men 3 (only due to story)

Terrible Marvel Flicks = Elecktra, Spider-Man 3

Have not seen Fantastic 4: Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider, Blade 2 and 3

Marvel didn't make those movies, did they?

One hero is rising and embracing his power, one is struggling and trying to get rid of it. You don't totally get behind Banner because part of you wants to see him fail (give in and become the Hulk), so you go into the movie not sharing the goal of the main character and rooting against him in a sense. Hulk might be more dramatic, but Iron Man is probably more fun to watch for a general audience.

Actually, I thought they made it very clear in the end of the movie that Banner was moving toward controlling the Hulk instead of destroying him.

And did anybody else catch the purple pants hit? That was funny.

They did, but as far as the movie itself, it is about him trying to repress and destroy the Hulk, so 5 seconds at the end of him embracing it won't change that for 2 hours, the audience is watching him fight his "gift" where most comic movies are about the change happenig to the hero and the hero embracing the destiny, and many fans of comic movies want to see that because they get to live through the heroes and think, imagine if I had those powers, and Banner makes them think, "you ^^^^^^^ if I coudl do what you do, I'd..." so when thinking about going to a movie or enjoying it enough to see multiple times and tell others to see, Hulk's story type can be a turn off for many.

Only Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk are Marvel Studios films. The rest are in conjunction with Marvel Enterprises but they had no real handle of the films themselves

While the majority of the film was about him fighting this curse, he takes hold of his destiny while on the Helicopter. He even says "I can't control it but maybe I can focus it" meaning he is accepting what he is and knows that the world needs him more than he needs to be rid of the Hulk. That is much longer than 5 seconds. The film is subtile is the issue where most comic book films are in your face about every facet going on. In the truck ride he even says that he can't remember anything that is going on and its just flashes of consciousness...the scene in the cabin is the next step, the next progression where Banner is trying to not only control the Hulk but be the Hulk. The whole film leads up to this point and The Hulk definitely has that hero accepting his destiny piece.

Well the subtly of Banner's emotional viewpoint of his situation will definitely miss younger minds, teens aren't going to pick up on the subtle things like that, they need outward embracement like Spider-Man, I'm sure even Batman Begins didn't hit so well with audience because it was a case of subtle embracing of destiny instead of outward.

Even if this is it for this line of Hulk movies, at least we got a really good one to enjoy for years to come. When's the DVD haha.

I would argue that audiences are smarter than you think. The reason the Hulk isn't doing as well as Iron Man has less to do with subtlety of emotion (Stark rejected his weapons of war in the same manor as Banner rejected his 'hulk') and more to do with bad editing and writing.

Iron Man's script was TIGHT - perhaps the tightest super-hero script to date. Hulk lagged in the emotional scenes nearly as badly as EpIII.

edit: Let me clarify - it lagged because of the EDITING! (not necessarily the script) - though it was weaker as well.

This Hulk movie undid everything that was "wrong" with Ang Lee's film. It told the story in quick yet effective bursts, it made Banner likable and believable. The characters has chemistry on screen. Hulk was a visible fighter throughout the majority of the film. I really think that the old film has really hurt this film, they took the stance to keep things underwraps as much as possible to create a buzz which was the opposite of what occurred with Iron Man. That has also hurt this film, I don't think the producers really took into account how much Lee's film was disliked and how off putting it was to the general non comic fan public.

Iron Man's sequel was announced a week after initial release. We are turning through week 2 into week 3 with no official announcement. That is a bit troubling because as far as I am concerned they got the Hulk formula right.

Ang Lee's Hulk actually reviewed better with the critics than the new one. Either way I can gaurantee, with the way Director, Actor, and studio parted ways after this one, IF there is another Hulk, it won't be Edward Norton, which probably means this is it for the Hulk for awhile, unless Marvel lets Norton have complete control over a sequal and he can ironically make a film more in line with Lee's, which it sounds like what he wanted with this one.

I just saw it tonight for the first time.

I enjoyed the story and most of the acting, and I loved the action scenes, but it really wasn't even in the same league as Iron Man. This one was really for the people who were already familiar with the character IMO.

IM had tons more personality, and that goes a long way. That said, I still really liked it and will get the DVD when it's eventually released (along with the koto statue! :rock ). Then again, I think I'm the only person in the world that actually liked Ang Lee's Hulk, so my opinon probably isn't worth squat :lol

I guarantee you that if a sequel is greenlit, Marvel Studios will give Norton a huge amount of freedom. When you have Stan Lee, who in reality has nothing to do with the studio aspects and is more of a old studio celebrity at this point with the wheeling and dealings of Marvel, saying outloud that he'd trust Norton over anyone else, the producers will feel the pressure that this didn't do as well due to them NOT listening to him whether that is the case or not.

I think we'll get one more Hulk film out of this group after that it'll depend on cashflow but something tells me that if Marvel Studios goes to Norton and says "Alright, do whatever you want" that he'll be hard pressed to put his money where his mouth is and that it'd be too tempting to pass up.

Which for fans like me of this one is great thing...

I did my part, I saw it twice. Loved it.

Marvel didn't do a good enough job promoting the fact that it was a reboot instead of a sequel. I think that may have hurt it.

Hulk may end up being in IM2, get captured and start the Avengers film imprisoned at SHIELD.

Oh, and I never saw any Thor cameo, despite really looking hard for it.

captain america is being so hyped up, using poor iron man and the hulk as stepping stones.

Thor is set to be in IM2, introduced there before his own film. It was already confirmed. There was no Thor cameo in Hulk, there was supposed to be a Captain America cameo that was cut completely and will be added to DVD.

Actually the Avengers film is what is being hyped using everyone as a stepping stone....from all things it looks like Avenger #4 is the main premise for the film and you can't pull that off without enough backstory.

Lou Ferrigno's cameo?

No...the hit on the purple pants that Hulk wore for so long.

Edit - In the motel, when Betty bought all of the cloths for him and he was trying some of them out. There was a pair of purple sweat pants that Betty said she got because they were the stretchiest ones she could find, but Bruce refused them because of the color.

I certainly saw what they were talking about by the Captain America refernces that were mentioned as being in the movie besides the face-to-face in the antarctic. When they gave the super soldier serum to the Russian dude (who was raised in England). He was showing what Cap will be like.

Yup, I know all that.

But there are some who swear to seeing Thor in the sky during the cave/lightning scene.

I think the Cap/Arctic scene is suppose to show up soon on the net, as well as being on the DVD.

I'm in such a Hulk mood lately, the use of "The Lonely Man" from the TV series in the movie has inspired me to try to come up with my own composition with it, so I'm learning the notes right now to the base piano keys then I'll mix in some other sounds and if I come up with something I like I certainly share with the group. Found a great video on YouTube that shows all the keys to play, I'm not much a piano player and don't understand sheet music but I can follow this. Hulk :rock
