I think that's just the people behind it trying to preserve some of the surprise. Because just from the trailers it's obvious, this movie isn't far away from the Alien franchise at all. It has Space Jockey's, it has the Derelict ship, it has eggs (seen in one of the official pics from the movie) it has the Weyland corp, it has the "Giger-style" bio-mechanical architecture and it even has a shot of architecture depicting thee Alien.

So all that "This isn't an Alien movie/prequel, it's just set in the same universe" talk is just misdirection. Everything about this movie screams Alien. So anyone surprised by Aliens fans (the narrow-minded purists lol) dissecting this film is just being naive.

It's like making a flick with Skynet & T-800's and pretending it's NOT a Terminator movie.

Well, it's not a prequel to Alien, in the way that it doesn't directly LEAD into Alien....it's set in the same universe, with the same characters, but it won't tie into any of the films. They could make 4 Prometheus' before they ever get to Alien's story/.

I'm one of the ones that already made my mind up I won't like this film and if it's any good then its a bonus.
I think they are cashing in on aliens imagery and space jockey to make a very weak film that will get a big audience.
I don't like the lead womans voice, it, just grates on me even in a short trailer, so god knows how I'm gunna cope for an hour and a half or two hours.
Ridley scott was in , then out, then back in over disagreements with either the script or direction oof the film so this can't be a good sign.
I respect him as a director and love alien, blade runner, gladiator etc but think maybe he was not fully committed to this film from the get go.
Hope I'm wrong, just my opinion.
Wish I had'nt seen the trailer now as it does give you a taster of whats to come and although the imagery looks excellent something feels wrong about it all.

That's not the definition of Prequel. Hannibal Rising is a "Prequel" and it doesn't "directly LEAD" into Red Dragon. It's just set before the events of that movie. That's a prequel. So it doesn't matter how many Prometheus movies they make, it's not just set in the Alien universe. It's telling a story THAT precedes Alien. It deals with things SEEN in Alien i.e. the Derelict spacecraft (same type ok) The Space Jockey's (different name ok) and it also features the Weyland Corp. All the elements from an existing movie.

Devil, that thing their shinning their torches on is not an egg. I'ts a space jockey's head. You can see it's torso in the right of that pic.

If you reffering to the things on the ground in the back ground, their those canister things. You see David open one of them up in the trailer..

So wouldn't sharing elements from the aliens movies make this a spinoff? I know it's a prequel In the sense that it takes place before alien, but it doesn't lead into the events of alien.

It IS set in the Alien universe.

So...I don't know what you're trying to argue here. That's a fact. If Weyland is in the film, it's set in the universe. Not counting AvP...because that just screws up a lot of stuff. Even Paul said it wasn't canon. Just fun...or whatever.

The only thing it doesn't do, is by the end of the film, it most likely won't end with a baby Ripley, or shot of the Nostromo heading off to LV-426. It could, I guess, but going by what Ridley said, he wants to make this the new Alien series.

This is going to be so awesome when it comes out i just hope we get hot toys figures before next year. I mean Hot toys is getting the whole cast of avengers timed with movies release why cant they make 2 figures from prometheus.

I finally got a chance to see the latest trailer today. I can't wait to see this now. Easily my most anticipated movie this summer (sorry, Avengers).
