Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

A Scott and Lindelof interview just went up on Aint it Cool News. The subject of the film's rating came up. It sounds like the studio is supportive of either a PG-13 or and R, Scott can cut the film however he feels works best.

Great news. R all the way, baby! :rock

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

It's facehugger-ish suggesting there will be a xeno-ish. Fox is trying to tell us to expect a variant of the Alien without ruining the fun. I'm guessing after seeing John Carter implode Fox wanted to reassure people who are sitting on the fence this movie it will be a strong Alien franchise tie in.

at the end of one of the trailers, isn't there a alien-ish leg full of holes and stuff, or is that someone just infected?

It's the bald dude. Or one of the bald dudes. You can see his pale humanish hands.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Just posted this over at the Hive and wanted to share my thoughts on other boards where I'm discussing Prometheus...

I've loved the new trailers, but I'm keeping my expectations low. I think it is unreasonable to expect an impact like the one we all had when we first saw Alien. So I'm just expecting a great sci-fi thriller, and not the masterpiece that Alien was.
Just a couple of thoughts.
Alien had a cast of mostly non-descript middle aged character actors. That gave the movie that fantastic atmosphere of regular people facing something totally beyond their control or imagination. This one is filled with pretty much A-list stars. Not really much room for identification with the "regular joe".
The characters in Alien were simple blue collar workers. These guys are top of the line scientists.
The Nostromo was an old bucket. The Prometheus is state of the art. Again, two very different approaches that will give Prometheus a very different vibe. Not saying it'll be bad, just saying it will be a very different film, and I have the feeling most fans are expecting something very close to Alien and its "feel", which IMHO is a set up for disappointment.
Add to that the fact that Ridley is past his prime, and has been for the last decade more or less, and I think the case is there to keep your expectations in check.
Another point is how different in scope the story seems to be. Alien was a simple movie made great by the acting and the visuals (and direction, of course), while Prometheus seems to be very ambitious in its scope. Again, a vast difference in tone.
As I said, I don't think this will be anywhere close to Alien in terms of tone and feel, and will look very different, so I think it's best to just approach it as a stand-alone sci-fi thriller and enjoy the occasional nods to Alien.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Not expectations in general, just expectations of this being an Alien movie in the same league as Alien.
I still fully expect it to kick butt.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I'm quickly becoming a fan of Michael Fassbender. He was amazing in Inglorius Bastards and equally good in X-Men First Class. Glad to see he's in this.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

My expectations are high. If it is good, it's the greatest thing ever made.

If it's bad, it's worse then any movie ever made in the history of cinema.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I wish I could keep my expectations low... :lol

My thoughts exactly! I've stayed out of this thread since I'm trying to avoid any spoilers. I am not going to watch any of trailers (except for the very first one to wet my appetite). But I'm more excited about this movie than any movie I can think of in the last 10 years.

You haven't seen the trailer released at Wondercon (or whatever) this past saturday?

I'm not saying this just because I'm excited for the movie..but that has got to be one of the most incredible trailers I've ever seen.

I think Prometheus is THE one movie that you can read about, watch the trailers, etc..and still have no idea what exactly will happen.

If you haven't seen this trailer yet..I suggest you do, because I will remember the first time I saw it for the rest of my life.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I remember the first time I saw the teaser trailer for The Phantom Menace so many years ago, and I will never forget it.

Come to think of it, maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that, because it definitely did not live up to the hype or my expectations.

But, but...

THIS WILL! :lecture

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I remeber when i saw Phantom Menace opening day i went to the first showing the theatre had, lol they had stormtroopers that worked the front door and even one that tore the ticket stub needless to say i fell asleep within 15 minutes. This on the other hand will not dissapoint me in the least it just looks absolutely great and i hope it will be
3/4's as good as A L I E N and if so it willl be amazing. Ridley does make great scifi
