Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Prometheus has more reason to be good than TPM did...but man, I can't imagine the level of disappointment the people who saw it in theaters must have felt.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Keep expectations low period...I dont care what movie it is...We all know what we are going to see pretty much ahead of time...Was TPM that bad..I dont think so...I just was happy to see a new Star Wars flick period...Escape from NY sequel sucked...but I was happy to see Snake Plissken played by Russell again...Scott has no doubt in my mind has the potential to make this a great one...we will wait and see...When I saw Alien and Blade Runner in 79 and 82 I saw them cold turkey...I didnt know anything about the stories except that one involved a monster in space and the other involved a detective in the future...I came out with a big WOW!...It will be tough I think to get another WOW...but If anybody can do it Ridley can...dont forget the writers...they gotta be top notch here too...anyway I like what I see so far from the trailers and the weyland scene....I hope its a good one

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Ok. Well, i'm not happy with something I love getting turned into bull____. Period.

And no, I never liked Transformers, before you ____ers bring that up. :lol

That first line you threw out means you had very heavy expectations and in your mind your own ideas of how things should be....Transformers is kids stuff...way after my time...it to me just showed a little more what cgi could do...that's it...were they the worst films I ever seen...no...were they the best...no......I say I hope it's good when I go see a film and not heavy expectations

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Then you need to watch more movies. :lol

Like Alien Resurrection. :lol

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Alien Resurrection is miles ahead of the TF trilogy in terms of quality...

G.I. Joe might be as bad as TF2.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Dude. No way. GI JOE is a 1000 times better then ROTF. :lol

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Maybe.
It gave me that same nauseated/headachey feeling that TF2 does, though...and tatum's acting... :thud:

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

It's a bad movie. But it's fairly short.

Anyway. ____ them both.

PROMETHEUS >>>> EVERYTHING EVER MADE, AND EVERYTHING YET TO COME!

Avengers? Pft.
Dark Knight WHO?
I'm Hungry, and I play games from time to time. Don't care. :D

It's all about the Pro!

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Oh, so would I. But that doesn't mean that GI JOE isn't the better movie. It is. It makes sense. It's short.

It's also really dull, boring, and never really gets exciting.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Prometheus has more reason to be good than TPM did...

But it also has equal amount of reason to be bad. Because it's a "prequel" to an existing story/franchise. And unless that's handled correctly, it has the potential to absolutely bomb with the intended audience.

And this movie has already kinda done that with the changes made to the Space Jockey's. Making them suits. The reality is, if this film and what it depicts, doesn't line up with what was shown in Alien, fans WILL complain about that. You know it's coming. :lol

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Which is why, whatever Scott says goes. If Scott says Ripley was a tranny, then so be it. :lecture

Some fans are already complaining about it..and there were always going to be those people. I think almost every idea imaginable has been thrown around for this movie by fans.

I remember being disappointed the day I learned that the Jockeys were just suits, because I'd imagined the opposite since I'd seen Alien. It was who they were to me. But now, to be honest, I like them better as suits. What's inside them? Some new biomechanical horror we haven't seen yet. My only fear, the thing that popped into my head when I first learned of them being suits, was Independence Day. But that doesn't seem to be the case, and if it were..they'd still probably make it appealing.
That's one thing. Every little thing I thought I wouldn't like has turned out looking great so far.

Also, if it's as far away from the Alien franchise as we're repeatedly being told, then there's even less reason for the narrow-minded purist fans to be upset.

But yeah, whether or not it fails with the die-hard fans, it looks to be a much better made, just higher quality film than TPM... I think everything we've seen/learned so far shows that.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

You haven't seen the trailer released at Wondercon (or whatever) this past saturday?

I'm not saying this just because I'm excited for the movie..but that has got to be one of the most incredible trailers I've ever seen.

I think Prometheus is THE one movie that you can read about, watch the trailers, etc..and still have no idea what exactly will happen.

If you haven't seen this trailer yet..I suggest you do, because I will remember the first time I saw it for the rest of my life.

No, and I won't until after I see the movie. Then I'll be watching all the trailers over and over again!! It's not only the story that I'm afraid of being given away, but everything about the movie. I like to go in with no knowledge of even the LOOK of the film, or of a particularly cool action shot. I think I'm crazy, but I just can't enjoy films as much after watching trailers. I just think they give away too much these days, or they completely misdirect you in what the film is going to be like.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

if it's as far away from the Alien franchise as we're repeatedly being told, then there's even less reason for the narrow-minded purist fans to be upset.

I think that's just the people behind it trying to preserve some of the surprise. Because just from the trailers it's obvious, this movie isn't far away from the Alien franchise at all. It has Space Jockey's, it has the Derelict ship, it has eggs (seen in one of the official pics from the movie) it has the Weyland corp, it has the "Giger-style" bio-mechanical architecture and it even has a shot of architecture depicting thee Alien.

So all that "This isn't an Alien movie/prequel, it's just set in the same universe" talk is just misdirection. Everything about this movie screams Alien. So anyone surprised by Aliens fans (the narrow-minded purists lol) dissecting this film is just being naive.

It's like making a flick with Skynet & T-800's and pretending it's NOT a Terminator movie. :lol

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

^ They even use the music from the first Alien trailer, and show it proud during the title reveal of Prometheus.

Okay, I should have said away from the Xenomorph. Although I find it hard to believe, they have said that the derelict in the trailers isn't the one in Alien (yes, I know)....and what eggs are you talking about?

I personally hope that the Alien wall mural thing is the only direct relation in Prometheus to THE alien.

I get that some people don't want the mystery to be revealed and all that, but like you said, "unless it's handled correctly"..which I think it will be...it shouldn't be that big of a deal.
