Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread
Aliens better be canon!
Aliens better be canon!
Aliens better be canon!
Aliens better be canon!
But as the end of the day it is Ridley Scott's sandbox. If he wants to knock over the sand castles the other kids built he's within his right to do so.
Meh. Ridley Scott didn't create Alien. He just directed the movie. So he's not in a position to decide what's cannon and what isn't. Dan O'Bannon is the creator of Alien. He came up with the original concept, wrote the majority of the screenplay, brought in the artists who designed all the spaceships/space suits/misc. stuff AND he's also the guy who found Giger.
Said it before and I'll say it again: Ridley Scott gets WAYYYYYY too much credit for Alien.
You can give numerous people credit, but if you wanted to point out one guy that was directly responsible for the creation of Alien it would be Dan O'Bannon. Not Ridley Scott. So not sure why everyone thinks Alien is his and that he has free range to do with it as he pleases.
Close. It was his idea for Castle Harkonan. From the page you sourced:
James Cameron and him are good friends, and he pretty much told him he needs to do this flick.
So I think it's safe to say Aliens is canon.
Aliens better be canon!
I'm sure it is, however with the way the film industry is going
It probably will be, not that it will be easy to tell being loosely connected sequel.

Just read the entire timeline. Very cool. Didn't see anything there that went against canon.
"This I can tell you and I can tell all the fans, not one frame will be cut. The movie will be what it should be. We will not cut a frame of the film. We will stand behind it 100 percent and if that means it's an R, then so be it, because not an ounce, not a percentage are we going to compromise the film."
