Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Aliens better be canon!

It probably will be, not that it will be easy to tell being loosely connected sequel.

But as the end of the day it is Ridley Scott's sandbox. If he wants to knock over the sand castles the other kids built he's within his right to do so.

Meh. Ridley Scott didn't create Alien. He just directed the movie. So he's not in a position to decide what's cannon and what isn't. Dan O'Bannon is the creator of Alien. He came up with the original concept, wrote the majority of the screenplay, brought in the artists who designed all the spaceships/space suits/misc. stuff AND he's also the guy who found Giger.

Said it before and I'll say it again: Ridley Scott gets WAYYYYYY too much credit for Alien.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

With prometheus and colonial marines, feels like this is the year for alien! just rewatched alien and aliens too get in the mood.

I'll agree with the part that O'Bannon basically wanted to do a serious version of Dark Star. O'Bannon and Ridley both worked on Dune where they met the art team they would later use on Alien, so you need to give Jodorowsky a nod too.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

You can give numerous people credit, but if you wanted to point out one guy that was directly responsible for the creation of Alien it would be Dan O'Bannon. Not Ridley Scott. So not sure why everyone thinks Alien is his and that he has free range to do with it as he pleases.

Agreed. Give Dan his due. It's all he's got.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Close. It was his idea for Castle Harkonan. From the page you sourced:

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

James Cameron and him are good friends, and he pretty much told him he needs to do this flick.

So I think it's safe to say Aliens is canon.

Aliens better be canon!

I'm sure it is, however with the way the film industry is going :slap

You guys need to go read the timeline on the Weyland website.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Just read the entire timeline. Very cool. Didn't see anything there that went against canon.

Probably because the script Dan wrote was re-written. And the spine of the story was saved. But Ash, Ripley, Dallas, ect...all came from Giler and Hill.

But Ridley still directed the thing. His vision. Without it, we'd never have these iconic images.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Yeah, I don't see what goes against it. Aliens is pretty far away from the last entry.

It's whatever year Alien was, plus 57 more.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

that timeline is awesome, well thought throughout. :]
the canon stops at A3, i guess.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Timeline ends before Alien, or anything else. Prometheus project is the last entry. So that'll take a few years/.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Tom Rothman comments on rating

"This I can tell you and I can tell all the fans, not one frame will be cut. The movie will be what it should be. We will not cut a frame of the film. We will stand behind it 100 percent and if that means it's an R, then so be it, because not an ounce, not a percentage are we going to compromise the film."

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Good. So, I guess it will be a hard R then.

Due to one shot of ****ies. Super hard R. Hardest R a film can ever get. Because of the ****ies.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

But the time line does mention things from both Aliens and Alien3. Technically even Alien Resurrection. So yeah.
