Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Double edged sword. The medicine used to bring the Alien back to our world was AvP, however, the needle contained horrible virus called "REKREUM".

So sad,

Love it! :lol

Got to love The Fass as a freaky robot.:panic: :lol

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

They really are making the androids a big part of the build up to the film.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

One thing that I'm curious about: if this is supposed to take place some years prior to Alien, why does all of the technology seem so much more advanced?

Maybe since it's a science team rather than a mining group they would have had pretty advanced technology anyways.

^ Yep.

Weyland directly funding the mission, VS. a buncha blue collar tow truckers in a ____ty ship, it's obviously going to be better tech.

Still doesn't make any sense because Aliens takes place AFTER both Prometheus and Alien (57 years time wise) and the tech in this flick is still more advanced. And remember, in Aliens that entire mission was also funded by the corporation (Weyland-Yutani).

And to be exact, I'm talking about the tech present even just on Earth (before the mission in Aliens start) being inferior and less advanced than what's seen in Prometheus. Not to mention ALL of the tech throughout the movie.

Key word right there.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

I understand exactly what Devil is saying but i think the answer to that is alien was made 1979 thats the only explanation i can think of

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Then why can't Ridley hold back and make the Prometheus tech look older than that?:p I just find it funny how this takes place before Alien, yet these guys have those skin tight body suits, whereas Dallas and Kane had those big honkin' astronaut suits.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

It can be rationalized as such - the Nostromo is a recently built Peterbilt semi-truck. It's a box with wheels that pulls other boxes with wheels. The Prometheus is a 1960's era Ferrari. Although older than the truck it outclasses it on every level and makes your jaw drop.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Prometheus tech looks more advanced because the "future" of 1979 is woefully dated in 2012. That's the downside of making a prequel to a 33year old sci-fi movie. Mother seemed very futuristic in '79, now, not so much.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

To experience the opposite effect watch 2001 and 2010 back to back. The 60's film sets look a million times better than the ones built in the late 80's.

Well duh. I know the real reason why. I was just discussing it within the context of the films.

But that still makes zero sense because like I stated earlier, it goes beyond just comparing those two ships and the equipment accessible to their crews. Aliens takes place over 5 decades later and even the tech seen on throughout that movie (don't say it Batty! :lol) looks inferior. Both on Earth and in space.

Dated or not - I think prequels should do retro tech to keep things in order.

It always bugged me in the SW prequels. Either go back and update Vader's Atari targeting sys in his tie fighter or retro the tech in the prequels.

When are they on Earth in Aliens? And what tech are you talking about? I don't think the powerloader/Sulaco were that big of a deal. Maybe the APC/Dropship...but that's not enough to ruin the movie for me.

The cameras on the marines were pretty bad..but I thought that before Prometheus was even thought up.

Seems like such a small issue.... :dunno

Oh, and is Ridley even taking the sequels into account with Prometheus?

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

When are they on Earth in Aliens?

First part of the movie before Ripley agrees to go on the mission to see what's up on LV-426.

what tech are you talking about?

EVERYTHING. Everything seen in that entire movie pales in comparison to the small amount of tech seen in the previews for Prometheus.

Seems like discussion to me. :wave

I thought that was on the space station orbitting..Earth.

I think you're mistaking that with the fact that this is 2012 and the overall graphic quality of the film is going to look much more advanced..more...shiny. :lol

There's definitely some tech seen in the trailers that doesn't appear in Aliens, but that wouldn't mean Aliens tech is inferior.
