Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread
It's not that they wont admit it.
ALIEN was a small story, a haunted house in space.
This one is a whole different animal (don't expect (big) corridor scares (with big creatures) until the end of the climax of the movie).
Scott wanted to top Avatar in terms of scale.
Titling it PROMETHEUS is a smart move by Scott.
Fox would never had given the cash he wanted to make an official Alien Prequel they almost backed out until he pitched them the concept of having it taking place in the same universe but being a whole new story, that will in some way ties to the Nostromo story but also have i'ts own future.
Fans get another pov of that universe and non fans get a new weird universe to discover.
Would you have prefered a cheapened Alien prequel wich would have ended up as a disguised remake like it was going to be before Scott got in.
Another quick cash for FOX who would have been no better that the AVP.
Now we get an big epic and ambitious scifi movie and related in some way to ALIEN.
Color me happy.
Common knowledge, but that doesn't change the fact that there IS an Alien Queen in the Alien mythos. So if you're going to do a prequel/quasi-prequel then you better make sure it lines up with the other official & established movies in the series. If not, then you get a HUGE piece of crap like AVP.
I don't think both concepts contradict each others.
I think that the're animals who can mutate to both male and female if needed.
Could be the same for the xenomorph.
When not a queen or stranded, it could still produce some eggs using other creatures.
Since it's in the Director's Cut of the movie directed by the guy who started it all as much as i looooooooove ALIENS i will definitly stick to Scott's description of the creature habits for the moment.
