Am I the only one who enjoyed the fight scenes between the preds/aliens in AVP? I didn't think the entire movie was junk.

Nope. I enjoyed those scenes too. I thought the original AVP was an enjoyable film. I went into the theater knowing it was going to be a monster slug fest! Basically, leave your brain at home type of film. If you know what I mean.

You have to be bleepin' kidding me!

Just let the trolls keep on trolling after they make the same point over and over and over.....and people are just supposed to ignore them? What type of logic is this?

A MOD came into this thread (Adoptedscot) and actually said this......

Here's some friendly advice for you DarthNeil. Another board member a while back said the same thing in another movie thread....."crap" and didn't offer up any reasons.

Do you know what happened next? Dave Stephens, your boss, came in there and posted something to the following effect......Instead of just saying crap, why don't you offer up some constuctive criticism, tell us why you didn't like it and contribute to this thread.

Sure DarthNeil, I'll just continue to ignore those that say "crap" and bug out.
wo..woa....woah :tap.

Context sixxy, context. This is the FIRST TIME I've been in this thread (I think) and anyone that knows me, knows when I am playing.
Yes I said it was crap but please don't take my post out of the context it was meant, in humour.
Rather than just picking out the one line you don't like, look at the entire message, it's an entire 3 lines of text.
In it you will have seen I was being playful, here is the FULL message that I placed in jest in response to another member and because of the good/bad back and forth going on:

On behalf of Lesbians everywhere :pfft:
You implying we look bitter :stake, why I oughta :thwak

Charlize is gorgeous, Prometheus prequel..sequel..whatever it is, is crap. There I said it (imo) :lol

If this thread is a back and forth between those who like it and those who don't then I'm sorry but don't take it out on us that come in and state a playful opinion for the first time. I know the interwebz is serious but jeez, give those of us who haven't spoken before a chance rather using the edited text as an example of what not to do.

Besides, a mere 2 hours after writing that initial post what you fail to mention is what I wrote next:

That's what I love about films/ Art/ Collecting...everything, it's all subjective and a personal preference, just because someones taste may differ from another persons, don't make it wrong or any less valid.
Someone may say that my opinion is a minority well all I can say is don't judge me like that and who cares anyway :dunno. I like what I likes, just like they do.

I'm glad that people are so enthusiastic about the film, that they enjoyed it so much, all I can say is I did not have the same experience.
I love the Alien franchise but Prometheus for me was not very entertaining but I really wanted it to be, I was looking forward to seeing it. I've only seen it the once though, so I may view it again when it comes on TV to see if I like it anymore the second time round.
As I say each to their own

So with that, I'm done in this thread until I see it again (maybe) but for the moment my opinion stands as it was that I didn't like it.

As I say, context...and a little calm helps (I think anyway).

Then I even contributed more the following morning (my time) after speaking to a friend about it:

Well I'm gonna give watching it another go, when it's on.
A friend of mine sent me a message and explained a few things I queried so I'm gonna give it another go with that new information as and when I can. I still stand by the fact I didn't like this film but I'm willing to see if I still feel that way after a second viewing.
I hope the character development is better second time round, it just didn't seem to fit well with me the first time and only time Ive seen it but until I see it again I will try keep an open mind.

x

So please don't pick a single sentence of my text and take it out of the context in which it was meant.

I thought you knew me :monkey2 :thwak (change of smilie so I'm not stabbing, see Devil :lol :rock)

The "please close" posts are starting to read as spam will be treated as such from here on out.

If you don't think you can discuss the film then quit bumping the thread and move on. There are enough of us willing to chat about the film at any given time.

I really loved the movie, admitted flaws and all. I thought it was a 2 hour set up for another three-movie epic. That's how I went into it, and that's how I came out of it.

I love the direction Ridley went with Prometheus, but I still greatly desire to see the vision that I think most of us originally had of the space jockey brought to the screen.

I was always kinda torn. On the one hand you wanna know more about the Space Jockey, with the typical questions, etc. but on the other hand I always liked that mystery about the film. TBH, I was kinda disappointed with the whole concept of them having anything to do with the creation of the Aliens. I was also VERY disappointed with the decision to make their signature look just a suit. Thought that was a terrible idea.

It'll be so tough to expand the cast in a sequel without it feeling ridiculously contrived (like Shaw running into another ship full of "fodder" characters on her way to the Engineer home planet.) It'd be interesting to see her go to the planet and find other "humans" living there as slaves, possibly previously abducted/harvested by the Engineers to serve as slaves. Yeah, yeah I know that's basically "Stargate" the movie but Prometheus basically followed the plot of the first AVP and did so masterfully so I'd be fine if they went the Stargate route for the sequel instead of her randomly meeting another crew that just "happened" to be out in the far reaches of space the same time she is.

It does kind of beg the question as to why they had to do that. They were all, "that elephant man is too weird to have be an actual character in a movie" and then they go and give the Engineer no dialogue in the final cut. Why couldn't he have just been a big elephant dude? That certainly would have fit the "alien" motif.

I could offer up lively, civil discourse to refute your entire post but I'll simply leave it to this.....I stand by my earlier statement regarding your initial post. And I'll let it go.

The suit could have been better if they allowed for some gross and disgusting features. Have the suit perfectly mesh with their own biology so the eyes on the mask actually become their eyes and watch them twitch their trunk like some kind of mutant elephant men. In other words, it wasn't nearly creepy enough. They also took a major downgrade in height too. If the jockey from alien stood next to the engineer we got in prometheus, I'm not sure the engineer would get to the belly button.

Also, holographics in the navigation chamber was way too bright and overdone. I thought it took away from the overall mood and design of the rest of the ship. The cute little flute bit doesn't exactly intimidate or impress either.

It just says to me they don't have a good handle on what the story is supposed to be about. If it was about the engineers, they failed to make them the real center of the story. Too much emphasis on David and the disfunctional Weyland bunch.

I love the Celtic fight. I also love the Queen scar fight. pretty much the only reasons to watch the movie.

Nope. I enjoyed those scenes too. I thought the original AVP was an enjoyable film. I went into the theater knowing it was going to be a monster slug fest! Basically, leave your brain at home type of film. If you know what I mean.

To get back to this, I enjoyed the fights, the initial storyline setup, set designs and the cinematography.

BUT something happened to ruin the film. When Sanaa Lathan's character allied with the surviving Predator. That's when I said, "Oh boy!" :slap :lol
