Funny thing is the stuff people don't like about Prometheus is usually the stuff that I thought made the film brilliant!

They gave everything a purpose & meaning in the Alien universe. Its not just some horror/monster/alien mash-up movie that has no meaning.

I love that everything goes back to creation. Having the aliens were created as a bio weapon by the Engineers to destroy Earth, loved! And the fact that what they created destroyed them. Says a lot about our humanity too. And we as Humans did something similar as the Engineers, we created androids as Engineers created us. I mean everything has a purpose.

And there are many other mysteries still to be solved.

Plus as I mentioned before, having just read Lovecrafts "At the Mountains of Madness" really makes Prometheus even better.

Its the overall story that i find intriguing, the big picture. Yes i wasn't loving some of the dialogue with some of the secondary characters, but I more was focusing on Shaw & David, and the Engineers. I thought everything dealing with them was done brilliantly.

Even though I can scrutinize and criticize some of the story decisions I fully agree. I think it really helps the picture that the three "iffy" characters (Fifield, Milburn, and Holloway) all die within a relatively short span of each other and once Holloway is finally torched the rest of the film is absolutely superb to the very end.

There are great scenes prior to Holloway's death (most notably David basking in the planetary holograms) but I found the film darn near perfect from that point on.

Yah me too. Feel exactly the same about Fifield, Milburn, and Holloway. But they never hurt my experience with the movie. They aren't painful to watch or anything. They are killed off and you want them killed off. :) And yes, once they are gone, man, David in the planetary holograms was breath taking. Saw this originally on huge IMAX screen (one of the biggest in the world), and that scene just looked absolutely amazing as did the beginning landscape scenes.

Having now scene the deleted scenes of the Engineer talking to David, i wish that was in the original. I think its needed to show David can communicate with them on a high level. I think its very important.

It does kind of beg the question as to why they had to do that. They were all, "that elephant man is too weird to have be an actual character in a movie" and then they go and give the Engineer no dialogue in the final cut. Why couldn't he have just been a big elephant dude? That certainly would have fit the "alien" motif.

this is one of my biggest gripes with the movie. we all had the image of an elephant man alien for decades now. everyone always thought about it, some weird dead elephant man on a chair.

now all of the sudden because of this new movie they make them human looking and make the elephant thing look a suit? I was fine with the movie but that pissed me off.

The suit could have been better if they allowed for some gross and disgusting features. Have the suit perfectly mesh with their own biology so the eyes on the mask actually become their eyes and watch them twitch their trunk like some kind of mutant elephant men. In other words, it wasn't nearly creepy enough. They also took a major downgrade in height too. If the jockey from alien stood next to the engineer we got in prometheus, I'm not sure the engineer would get to the belly button.

Also, holographics in the navigation chamber was way too bright and overdone. I thought it took away from the overall mood and design of the rest of the ship. The cute little flute bit doesn't exactly intimidate or impress either.

It just says to me they don't have a good handle on what the story is supposed to be about. If it was about the engineers, they failed to make them the real center of the story. Too much emphasis on David and the disfunctional Weyland bunch.

:exactly: .

Not me...had absolutely no problem with it. There was no evidence in any of the movies that it wasn't a suit with a helmet. Not much was known about the Space Jockeys. The fact they were called Space Jockeys or Pilots by the creators, and revealed in Prometheus they were suits with helmets makes perfect sense to me...But if you thought otherwise, thats totally your opinion, so no worries.

Why couldn't it work?

They've tried it twice (AVP and in Predators to a certain degree with Royce making a pact with the captured P1) and both times it came off as goofy. Which is the opposite reaction the comics got (from what I can tell since I don't read them).

Maybe it's one of those things that just won't translate like a live action Batman wearing underwear in a dramatic movie. :lol

I think those are poor examples because they're both fairly poor movies.

I can't imagine what would be so difficult about the team up if it were attempted by someone who knows what they're doing. Not Paul W.S. Anderson or that Nimrod Antal guy. :lol

Now, the scenes of Dachande and his clan conversing with each other might be tough.

They could just say that Engineers combined their own DNA with dinosaur DNA just to see what would happen and the Predator race was born.

Think about it, Predator obviously has reptile in them, but they are tall and strong like the Engineers. It kind of feels like maybe they are related. Maybe Predators Humans Aliens and Engineers all share DNA

That would explain why Predators are so obsessed with coming to hunt us, because they knew of the plans the Engineers had to kill humans and they didn't want that to happen because the like hunting us.
this writes itself.

This is worse then Colonel Marines.

I was always kinda torn. On the one hand you wanna know more about the Space Jockey, with the typical questions, etc. but on the other hand I always liked that mystery about the film. TBH, I was kinda disappointed with the whole concept of them having anything to do with the creation of the Aliens. I was also VERY disappointed with the decision to make their signature look just a suit. Thought that was a terrible idea.

I feel the same way about the new reality of the Engineer/Jockey. Somewhat disappointed to learn about what/who the Jockey really is or turned out to be. I kinda expected more.

To me, the numerous pieces of fan fic/art out there is more intriguing.

Yeah, the jockeys in the comics were awesome, totally bad *** and unexplained.

I love the mystery that was associated with the original Jockey in Alien, but I feel that Prometheus has answered some questions but still kept mystery.
