Really how it is an alien film and they're just playing it down.
But from the pics even if it has no alien in the film it still looks Luke a great film.
Can't wait......

Awesome. Cannot wait for this and The Thing.

Just saw the official trailer for the thing.
Was a bit worried about it to begin with but the trailer looks promising and they're not giving to much away.

But that film is for another thread lol

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

The Thing prequel is a travestry.
They say Prequel but it's clearly a remake.
They even managed to fit in american characters in the nowergian base.
It's a update for the lazies stupid who can't watch movies released before 2000.

So were they just saying it wasn't an Alien film to hide the connection/surprise?

It started as an ALIEN prequel directed by Scott Son in law Carl Rinsh.
Fow did not wanted him, they wanted Scott.
Scott started working on it and asked a budget of 250 millions dolars.
Fox said no way we're putting that kind of money in a dying or dead licence.
Scott then reworked the alien prequel script(that featured the xeno and origins of the drelict ship crashed on LV426) and oriented it toward a new direction.

A look at the Space Jockey race itself.
So there is no eggs, no chestbusters, no xeno in this movie.
But some weird Urns, with a green goo inside that seems to do strange things to humans.
I tend to think that DNA fusion and tempering will be the key to the new creatures (some are human sized, maybe human metamorphised by the alien freen goo, some are much bigger, think Space Jockey size).

Also ALIEN being associated with these xeno creatures a change of name is possible.
And since it's a new licence that will probably spawn sequels FOX agreed on the huge budget.
So basicaly PROMETHEUS is set in the ALIEN universe 30 years before the Nostromo incident, it's a companion piece, a side story.
Blade Runner is supposed to be in the same universe too.

And it will not connect ALIEN directly story wise but the're will be nods or easter eggs.

Amazing crappy photos.
It seems strange seeing the Alien franchise in all newly filmed high def looking way. I'm used to the grainy Alien movies , even in high def.
I'll miss that a little. Regardless this look amazing , can't wait. :rock

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

After seeing the pictures yesterday, this is definitely an Alien movie... those do look like Alien eggs and the set designs just yells at Space Jockey and Alien.. even having Weyland Yutani Corporation that Charlize theron works for is a nod to James Cameron Aliens, i believe this will explore the Space Jockey and the climax of the film will introduce the first stages of the xenomorph. this film will be great. I also wonder if Michael Fassbender is an android or something else. in the other alien movies androids did not cry and had behavioral inhibitors, so i wonder is he more of a replicant or an android..also, i belive ridley said that this is a planned trilogy that will mirror the alien movies and give us the back-drop to what else was going on.. would be awesome to re-introduce the colonial marines in the next film, but give it more of an alien vibe than aliens vibe

One...The Thing Prequel, IS a prequel. Yes, they included 2 amercians for our sake....and the rest of the cast is Norweigan. It's set in 1982, days before Outpost 31. It's been confirmed.

Two...it DOES connect with the Alien series...because it is about the SPACE JOCKIES. Therefore, connected, therefore....PREQUEL.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

A prequel usually deals with the origins of the events, or characters.
Since it wont feature anybody from the first movie and won't lead to the crash of the Derelict nor the lauch of the Nostromo toward LV426 it's not a direct prequel.
Yeah it features a member of the SJ race, yeah it takes place 30 years before the event of ALIEN but it's not a prequel as we are used to, that's all i meant.
Side story, spin-off, expended universe...
The creators and authors of the movie themselves Scott and Lidenlof don't call it a Prequel why would you?
You probably know better than them what they are doing i guess...

As for The THING So yeah technically it's a prequel but you have to be dumb to not see this is a disguised remake. From the trailer you can see that the events unfold like in the original movie.
Again this kind of stuff only fools stooopid fanboys or the average moviegoers who did not probably see the original and don't care to see almost the same scenes again.
Oh and love the part about including americans for your sake.
It's the same fuced up nonsense that leads to having a black dude, a woman or a dog just for the sake of everyone, to appeal the larger audience even if it's not neccessary or justified.
The base was norwegian only, speaking nowergian only too, which was essential to the opening scene of THE THING since all goes wrong very early because characters don't understand each others.
The director of this remake could have donne a subtle thing like in THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER where the russian speaks russian but then he shift them to english but a clever zoom in zoom out camera movement on the lips of russian captain Sean Connery.
Here the director think the average american moviegoer is probably too ethno-centered to care about foreigners and need us citizen (and a stupid young pretty scientific female nonethe less... my gosh) to make sur that he cares for the story.
Integrity my ass...

It all leads up to the burst of the Space Jockey...

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

No it won't mate ^^
When it was a "real" prequel yes but not anymore.
The SJ in Prometheus (called the Engineer) is a leader of his race, inside his ship has even a huge statue of his face that hides his cryo chamber, navigational system the famous chair from ALIEN.
The SJ from ALIEN was just a regular pilot, transporting the eggs cargo, eggs created by the Engineer.
Scott already has a sequel ready for PROMETHEUS.
And it's not ALIEN ;)

Where the hell did you learn all this?

Yes, please do tell...

I'm very interested to see the outcome of this project. ALIEN is my all time fav movie. So far the pics of Prometheus look good.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Until I see this in theaters, It's a Prequel.

And for the whole "Ridley said he's making a sequel to it, and it's not Alien. WINK WINK" crap, the Hobbit is a two-part prequel to Lord of The Rings basically...

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

The "it's not a prequel" thingie like i said has two reason, economical (ALIEN licence is dead) and artistic (It's not a prequel per se for the reason in stated before).

Got my infos from rumors that were released a while ago but that no one did really catched upon, and that fits completely the leaked images.
Also from fellow fx artist who are at work in a company doing Previz and recently full cgi work for the movie.
As for the movie not leading up to the crash on LV426 nor The Nostromo it's simply the screenwriter that confirmed this at the SDCC press conference.

Re: Official Alien Prequel/Prometheus Discussion Thread

Thank god PROMETHEUS looks like ALIEN since it takes place in the same universe.

Movie poster?

Got it from:

If you go to the site there are two more pics of the above image behind what appears to be a glass casing. Could be fan-made. But it looks pretty good. Reminiscent of the ominous feel of the original ALIEN teaser poster.
