I think the shape and size of the helmet looks more accurate on hurricane's custom. (At least on pictures since I don't have either in hand) but man ssc's vader look freaking huge.

oh i'm all giddy with excitement over this figure, i have to ask maulfan, if there's any chance of you taking some pics with vader facing off against old ben? i'd love to see the scale between the two of them, also i just know you'll do a fantastic job photographing them too. sorry to be so demanding lol

Or maybe its possible to stretch it the way a lot of us have been doing with the stormie's chest armor?

That's what I was thinking too. Perhaps a little hot water to open up the side helmet flaps just a touch.... Vader is going to be a real star in a lot of folks collections. He gets four out of four dancing Chewies: :chew:chew:chew:chew

So does Hurricane's. Praji and the Stormies are standing higher. Put them down to level and it's about the same.

For the flaps maybe, but the dome itself is still a bit small IMO...
I usually don't nitpick... but Vader is my favorite character so... I don't know...
it looks a bit off... but I'll wait until I have mine in hand!!

I just wish it looked more like this:

I think what is throwing the likeness off is that the dome is sitting straight, it was usually seen at an angle during ANH like so...

Its a small mod I will more than likely be doing to mine.

Sweet Jeezus! What helmet is that, what scale is it, and where can I get one Today!

:google This figure is incredible! It looks to be worth the wait and then some. The scale is fantastic and I can't wait to have him towering over my other Sideshow Star Wars figures.

That said, I have to side with the "dome is too small" crowd. In an effort to satisfy my own curiosity, I did a little Photoshop tweak (widened and lengthened the dome only; the face is untouched) and, while not perfect, I think it really improves on the already awesome sculpt. Hopefully they rework this element for future Vaders.

The current helmet dimensions are certainly not a deal breaker. This is easily Sideshow's finest 1:6 figure and will be difficult for them to top!:chew

Yup.
Have to agree.
Everything else looks fine but hopefully SS will revisit the character down the road.

OuiGon, that ANH Vader looks like a custom 1:1 scale helmet and looks very screen accurate at that...notice the widows peak at the brow area.

Damn damn damn... I really hoped they were going to fix that helmet 'cause I've been saying ever since Comic Con last year that the dome was off.

ANH Vader is supposed to look a bit grimy, matte paint... like this:

It's very rare I nitpick a Sideshow figure 'cause sometimes the way they turn out is just the nature of the beast, but as this is my most anticipated, I guess I got my expectations up too high.

I'm on the same boat...
The more I look at the pics... the more noticeable it becomes...
crap... I'm becoming the very thing I hate the most!!! :horror

Yeah, I hear ya. I stopped going to the Stormtrooper thread because of all the complaints about the chest armor being too wide. So you have to stick it in some boiling water and bend it a bit to get the perfect shape. Big deal. Just do it and move on - the rest of the figure is pretty damn impressive. With Vader's dome, there probably isn't much we can do to widen it.

But on the bright side, the stitching looks fine and the height is awesome!

They must had used various domes with different finnishes on them..hell even the dome worn in his Tie Fighter looks to have no widows peak at all and a matte finish.

The matte effect doesn't worry me, the fact that the head is one solid piece does... very hard to fix the size that way.

I don't think it is. I bet it's a couple of pieces if not a few, like the Stormtrooper. MaulFan just doesn't feel like exploring that aspect with his Production Sample and I can't say I blame him. Once he gets into our hands, we'll know for sure.
