Hello, I am new to this thread, although I have tried to read up on the last couple hundred pages (skimmed and scanned).

I wanted to share a couple pics and ask a question.

I had a friend cut a piece of white maple to size and I painted it black. I think it makes a great step for Vader to put a leg up. I love his boots and really wanted to shoe them off:

In context right now:

My question is regarding a slight mod.

I have my Vader set up with his shoulder armor over his robes alla ROTJ. I just like that look better. Here's the problem: I am really irritated by the "screen accurate" right black tusk. :(

I am very tempted to just paint both tusks a matching silver, but hate doing permanent mods to my figures.

I really only meant to have this one Star Wars figure as I am not a SW fanboy. Just wanted to have one definitive figure.

I see people talking about a possible forthcoming ESB or ROTJ Vader from Sideshow... should I be waiting for that and then maybe sell my ANH Varder? Or should I just paint the tusk and be happy with this one?

Anyone else have an opinion?

I am leaning towards painting the tusk. After all it would be easy enough for me or someone else to paint it black agin.

Paint up, it's a minor fix

I'd leave it. It'll help further distinguish him from the other Vaders coming down the line.

Dunno, Maglor.... If you're never going to sell it and it really irritates you that much I say paint them up!

Heh, OK, getting mixed messages here. The one I want to hear is "Paint up, it's a minor fix." Because I really don't want to buy anymore SW figures. Although, if a future DV release was really badass and in some way put this figure to shame then I may want to sell this one and get the new release. Then I'm worried that selling will be harder with the painted tusk. But if the only difference between this figure and future releases is the tusk, then I may as well just keep this one and paint the tusk.

Agh! can you see my dilemma?!?!

What do you think will make future release different?

Right now the only thing I can think of (other than the tusk) that would make me want to buy a different DV would be if he was just a tad shorter. Even though I don't have him on display with other SW figures, he almost doesn't look 1/6 scale in the context of my room.

I bet SS will change more than the tusk for the next Vader(s). I'd leave him unaltered for now and see what SS does. You definitely have a good point where resale is concerned to.

If/when SS does a ESB or RotJ version, I highly doubt this Vader is going to be in high demand. I say "paint it".

But that's still YEARS away. I have a feeling he's gonna be the last version of Vader we see, with ESB being next, ROTS and potentially a battle damaged TFU to milk the body before finally ROTJ Vader.

Again, I say leave it. It'll help distinguish him from the other Vaders Sideshow will be putting out.

If it's going to be your only Vader and it bugs you paint it, I'm sure there will be significant other changers to any other Vader fig and you can always paint it black again. Be content in the fact that's the only one thing on this figure which bugs you, me I've changed domes, redoing capes & contemplating a hack saw :horror :lol

I wouldn't count on that. There were what 8500 of these made and they're already going for over retail. It was an A+ fig, down to the redish tint of the lenses and costume that set it apart. Yes, ESB Vader and a Jedi reveal will be big no doubt, but this one is a future sleeper IMO. (It's the only one of it's kinda also, far as i know. Medicom hasn't done a ANH version, and others don't stack up)

By far my favorite 1/6th figure.... :love

If you love it and you want to keep this one then paint it.... If you don't love it and won't keep it then don't paint it... really simple choice.

Well,
I finally was able to find a Hasbro helmet thanks to my buddy Eddy,
What a huge difference it makes!!
Pics don't do it justice...
anyway, here's my updated Vader with new helmet and LED saber
I still need to reposition it a bit, but so far, looks awesome!

Its subtle, but it certainly takes away from that timmy fade look...nice job!

Subtle indeed, but it looks good. I know this helmet debate has been going on for ever, but the helmet issue has never really caught my attention. It's possible that the SSC Vader looks better with a customized dome, or with the Hasbro helmet, but I'm quite happy with the way SSC did it.
That led lightsaber on the other hand... looks great. So far, I haven't taken any pictures of my SSC Jedi/Sith collection, because unlit lightsabers look so ...uncool. These new led sabers are quite nice I think, but what a bill if you have to upgrade all the SSC Jedi/Sith! Also, I wonder if they aren't a bit out of scale. It is hardly noticeable on Vader, but it might be obvious with the smaller Jedi figures. Might consider doing some photoshop on those sabers after all...
