They definitely should have done a little more work on the helmet. What I basically did was widening the dome crown and tilting the whole thing so it sits lower in the back. Then I pulled up the upper inner eye sockets where they connect with the nose bridge. Make the whiskers under the cheeks larger, and changed the shape at the upper edge of the cheeks, to give the whole thing some curves. It's not perfect, but it's a better representation of the helmet.

absolute world of difference!
Yeah, it's kinda insane to think that so few modifications and they'd have a stellar helmet that would rival the Marmit and be a home run - even with my nitpicking eyes. All that was changed was the cheek tops and bottoms, curve of the upper eyelids and where they connect with the nose bridge - going straighter rather than dipping down in the corners - and then basically just making the dome 10-15% larger.

From a distance you'd almost think I was comparing with a screen helmet.

They are SO CLOSE... and it baffles me why they don't seem to go that extra mile... especially considering just how few modifications are required. They just gotta get over the embarrassment of not being willing to accept that Vader has a large dome.

Wanted to post a pic with Emperor in it.

What a great mod, I think I'll convert mine as well.

This is my SSC Vader with hasbro dome. And although not accurate to the film i prefer the armour over the robes.

Got my Kaustic KP02 body today for King's Vader mod. The body's big, which is great. Looks very nice in hand for anyone who has not had one before (this is my first Kaustic experience and I like it so far). Body is also heavy, which again is a bonus... will make Vader seem sturdy.

Conversion tomorrow... I'll take a pic of the SS vs. Kaustic bodies so you can see the difference in height and build from the inside out.

Looking forward to it. My Kaustic will be in hand Tuesday but I won't be able to do the mod till a few days later. Looking forward to hearing how it goes Wor-Gar....

Thanks King for sharing, cannot wait to do this mod......

King Kaustic BODY MOD done...

I think it's vastly improved. Still BIG but much closer to Prowse size. The figure itself -- boots, gloves, mask, everything is just on the large size given the size of body that SS developed for Vader.

But let's see for ourselves, shall we...

First, here's the Kaustic body with some reference -- old Han on Buck and new Boba on prometheus. Actually not bad scale based on the film.

And here's the SS VADER (full torso mod) compared to several figures: Kaustic, Soldier Story and old unfutzed Han Solo (sorry he looks so lame)....

SSVadercomptobodies.jpg

Next, let's compare the Kaustic body to the SS Vader body...

KEEP IN MIND that my Vader body has not only had the TORSO MOD done to it, also I didn't add the emaller piece back in but rather removed the torso piece completely and "taped" it together to lose even more height. But My "short" Vader still came in at about 13.75 inces. So you guys with the correct torso mod, YOUR VADERS ARE EVEN TALLER THAN MINE HERE.

Below each body is wearing a Vader boot so you can see the height each will be...

Here is a silhouette picture because sometimes its easy to see the difference this way. Clearly the SS body is taller.

And so here's what we get when Vader is on the Kaustic Body...

Proportions to me seem correct, height is improved relative to other SS figures.

And now we'll see some compares of the real difference between both fully dressed Vaders...

Below are BEFORE AND AFTERS... each relative to the same figures, and the following picture has some guidelines to better see the height difference...

Anyone know an online store that still stocks the Vader figure- besides eBay?
Thanks.

Wor-Gar thanks so much for the pics. I will be getting mine next week.

If you don't mind I have a novice question. :monkey3

Is the swap easy to do? I'm always careful with any mods but any helpful info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much.

Thanks guys!

Had some weird storm clouds outside just like cloud city...

Yes, easy swap. Two things to keep in mind were:

1) King recommends that you heat the gloves before forcing them onto the forearms -- the pegs inside the gloves will fit the Kaustic forearms but it takes force. Put the gloves on BEFORE you put the armor on Vader.

2) the ball joint for the head is larger on the Kaustic than the one on the Sideshow body. No worries -- the Kaustic peg fits fine with no extra force which was surprising.

Its a very easy swap. Trickest part is futzing that damn cape and robe -- I hate them, I hate them, I hate them...

i noticed those clouds today too... quite a contrast to the surrounding blue sky to the east... very Bespin.

Awesome pics and instructions, thanks!
I was planning on using the Kaustic bodies for Superheroes, I might just have to use one on Vader.
