I have never seen a company make Facebook as much of a focus as Sideshow did with Spooktacular this year. That is what was over the top.

Agreed 110%. Twitter and Facebook should have been used to create a buzz, gather excitement but all in all push members back to the actual Sideshow site where everything should be occurring. One or two contest given out on those sites fine, but they rivaled the actual site contests at times, not to mention if I were in charge, I wouldn't have ever announced big giveaways like Doors on Twitter and Facebook. I would have put it up after the fact with something like "Did you catch Doors of Indecision where we passed out ______ and _______ and _______ to lucky Spooktacular participants? No? Then make sure you stay on the Sideshow homepage through this week for more chances to win." I understand usage of new technology and what is trendy right now but hopefully next year its used as a sign to an event not an event place.

Between having to check Ivana's page, Mort's page, Sideshow's page, Spooktacular event page, Twitter, Sideshow's homepage not to mention the one contest hidden on the One Ring. It was too much. Not to mention the flurry of glitches on things that weren't new but Spooktacular regulars, right down to a word not working for 30 minutes only to have those who found and were trying and being vocal about it not working lose out on the item by sheer dumb luck for those who tried it later. Let's not even start about the multiple prizes given out to folks, big ones at that and the ones given out to ungrateful folks who ended up winning more.

I look forward to Spooktacular every year, its a ton of fun (or was) and everyone used to get in to the spirit. I couldn't shake the feeling that SSC was phoning it in this year. Maybe its because they spread themselves too thin that it felt that way. As for as SSC is concerned this was my worst Spooktacular experience and it has nothing to do with not winning in reality every year I get screwed in Chat due to lag or something else people even note it here so that I find funny and most of my swag comes from freebees from the decoders (which was severely lacking) but it comes from the overall feel of it, the fun and participation. There wasn't a movie (even though I didn't like last years still many did), Criswell was meh, no returns from last year's highlights like the Crew or even EGAD (still crying tears from not seeing Alison again)

There were flashes of ol' Spook, in scavenger hunts and definitely amongst those of us who were in chat 12/13 hours a day entertaining ourselves whilst the SSC folks were out at meetings and such (planned during your own event? Really?) but overall I saw it as a week wasted. Hopefully they get it together before next year but as least it wasn't as watered down as the SDCC event was this year and at least the Mort comic was great.

The FREAKS were great as always but that is expected since on these boards we bring the awesome 24/7, 360 days a year.

It was still going this morning?!?!?! Anything happen?

Nothing from SSC while I was there, just a few die-hards chatting it up. I broke at noon (eastern) for lunch, and it was gone before I got back, so I didn't see how it ended. Someone else posted that Chris showed up at the end.

Ok, that's 4 posts for me...one more and I can start sending PMs. 7 more before I can see full sigs.

Yeah, but aren't some of their "core-fans" the reason there is so much back stock? Pretty much the giveaways.

No, that's on them, too. You can't blame consumers for questionable product decisions and/or lack of Quality Control.

I think this morning was the only time I was there and you weren't! :rotfl

And the only thing going on was just a handful of us comforting chat and assuring it that everything was going to be okay. :monkey2

i thought the creature would fit the halloween theme. but i was pretty depressed last night. felt bad for all the lady folk in the family. sucks to bury a dog.

Yeah it is sad. We're VERY attached to our pets so the loss would be rough. We had to put my Mother In-Laws' dog down 2 years ago and she barely spoke for a week afterwards. :(

I didn't have a problem with the Facebook and Twitter contests except for the "like" contest. That was just an epic failure of massive proportions. People were sending out mass requests to facebook friends to vote on their entry. Something about politicking like that just seems wrong to me. I thought Spook was about the collector community, not who has the most friends and family on facebook. I guess that's part of integrating social media sites though.

As for that, it seemed like a bad way to run the contest based on the likes... (and I think I made an enemy with Dusty when I replied to her comment here... and I really hope she read my reply and saw that I didn't mean anything toward SSC with it... )
Where was I?... oh yeah... it seemed like a bad way to run that contest... but then when the Mistress gave out 4 runner up prizes based on the ones she personally liked, I had a new appreciation for the contest and really enjoyed reading her choices and her comments about each one. So I am 100% ok with that contest. Instead of it being a "like" contest for one prize, it was a 5 prize deal where she made the picks based on content, and the rules of the question asked.
Bravo Mistress! :clap Bravo!

its all good pal, i really just wanted to get the sabretooth pf if the price dropped a bit.

but if your offering, i collect solid gold bars lol!!

i am going to the post office with all the giveaway prizes tomorrow!!!!!!!!
Been looking for boxes all day today.

I gave out:
Vader oversized VCD
Chainsaw
Ed
A team Van
Medicom Blade

and had plans to give away a SSE creature dio
and a bowen faux bronze cap
but then we had to put my in-laws pug to sleep and that ended all thoughts of charity last night. maybe next chat
You gave out as much in chat yesterday as Sideshow did! It was truly appreciated by all. You seriously didn't have to do that...

I'm very sorry to hear you didn't win anything this year, and even more sorry to hear about the loss of your in-laws pug... I hope you win one of the unposted contests, since you certainly deserve it!!! :hi5:

And The Mike winning a gift card because of his knowledge of Alex's cat was priceless.

:lol I actually paused and didn't answer right away because I couldn't believe the question.

See boys and girls, when you make fun of people and they tell you things like their cats are named for useless hobbits as a defense on why they like said useless hobbit its pays off. Not to mention if you were in chat with me making fun of all these people you'd have picked up on it.

Just remember for next year "Eager Ewoks". I guarantee you that'll come up sooner than later.

I have to agree that all the freaks who gave stuff away went above and beyond the call and are very cool for doing that and helping out the loser list. Great Job Guys. :rock2

LOL It does pay to listen. :lol

I'm surprised I won the like contest as all I did was read other people's entries and selected like. I only asked once for people to vote for me in chat. Other than that, I did not bother with self promoting.

In the end I didn't win the Undying Carcass (due to a technicality - which I have no problem with) and got a $100 GC that I can't use.

So into the giveaway bin it goes.

No, that's on them, too. You can't blame consumers for questionable product decisions and/or lack of Quality Control.

Not to mention that Sideshow has the right to firesale them out. If dealer can sell PFs sometimes for $100.00 or 1/6 figures for $40, then you know they aren't losing out on funds, that means Sideshow could do it for the same or even less. If they have a ton of Van Helsing PFs for example that have been rotting for years and put them up at $100, I guarantee you despite all the ____ talking, people would buy them. They hold at retail for products that aren't that popular for whatever reason that is on them.

Take the Rick O' Connell PF. It isn't that popular now. If the paint apps come back subpar, it'll be canceled through the roof. Next Spook it'll be given away a couple of times but only discounted 10% on the site. Sideshow IMHO should just learn the lesson, mark it down as low as it can possibly go to clear inventory and move on. That won't happen though.
