:lol :lol :lol

Actually I may go to see a late show tonight:lol

I definitely want to see it again before it hits DVD, but with Rat (not spelling it), Die Hard 4, and the new HP movie coming out.. I have too many other movie viewing choices. Although HP can wait for the cheap seats. I am not even certain I want to see it. It makes for passable entertainment, but that's it.

I've seen Pirates 3 and Ocean's 13 twice, I have to see Transformers at least 3 times before it's over :)

Well I just got back from seeing it after my friend pleaded with me to go. I already watched the first half at home, was unimpressed, but I tried to be Optimistic and go in with an open mind. I'm terribly disappointed. I really wanted to like this film but I can't believe you people actually like this tripe. Michael Bay is the worst director EVER. It's excruciatingly long. We have to wade through all of the lame jokes and dumb comedy before the robots show up. I totally agree with Vern's review point-by-point. If I was a die-hard Transformer fan I'd be pissed as all hell right now. First of all I don't understand why you all are not pissed off and outraged as I am by all of the design changes, especially to Prime. He's red and blue not purple and orange with gay-ass flames. Yeah, he kicks ass and Peter Cullen's voice is the only thing that makes him cool. Most of the time you can't even tell one robot from another because it's just a big fast blur filled with explosions and debris. Jazz dies and it's like "Oh well, we lost Jazz but we gained some new friends." When Prime died in the 86' movie people were crying their eyes out. There was more emotion in that cheesy old 80's cartoon then there was in this film. Megatron shows up for the last 10 minutes but he doesn't resemble anything of the memorable Megatron character. Why didn't they get Frank Welker? If Peter Cullen is the voice of Prime then Welker is the voice of Megatron. They should have got all of the original voice cast from the cartoon. Hans Zimmer's cheesy overdramatic score should be forever barred from underscoring ANY Michael Bay film or ANY motion picture for that matter. It's the same old ******* keyboard music recycled from one Bay film to the next. I swear to God I felt like I was watching Armageddon part 2. If this is the kind of low-rent indulgent crap you people are buying for entertainment these days then Vern was right when he said:
"Holy s#!t, society really is on the brink of collapse."

Michael bay rocks and Zimmer is awesome as usual. Dont know what kind of movies you like Dave, but this was an enjoyable ride for me. I didnt go into it expecting oscar winning performances

Or tastes are changing, times change Dave, accept it. Of the trash Hollywood roles out these days, this is certainly one of the better pieces, and I also liked Armageddon, and the Rock, and think Hans Zimmer is one of the best composers presently doing work. It's all tastes. I'm sorry you didn't like it, but don't go talking like anyone supporting films like this is showing a degrade in society or something, I'm sure many said similar about Aliens and Terminator back in the day, to each their own, but this certainly isn't some trashy film to make you worry about society by any means.

I agree. Just cause I or others like it doesn't mean diddly on the scale of things. I went in just wanting to see a decent flick and got it IMO. I wasn't looking for an Oscar winning masterpiece by any stretch. I just wanted to have a good time with me, my buddy, and his son. I did so I came out feeling like it was worth it.

I just thank my lucky stars that I grew up in the time that I did when summer blockbusters were imaginative, inspired and were classics I hold near and dear to my heart. Maybe I'm getting old and this "new" crap is so derivative from the stuff I grew up with that it looks like somebody poured it into a blender and whipped up a s#it ****tail that leaves a revoltingly sour aftertaste.

I think this could have been a really awesome film had it been entrusted to more capable hands. It could have been written so much better with better characters and could have been really really clever instead of coming off as a Disney theme-park ride and 2-hour toy commercial and video game which is what all the blockbusters now are pandering themselves off as which we can thank those beloved summer blockbusters of our childhood for. I really think Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Aliens, Terminator, etc. had more of a detrimental effect on cinema today than anything else.

If nothing else, this reminded me why I don't go to the movies anymore. I find myself prefering those rare artistic gems of independent film that come along every now and then to the overblown, overhyped, uninspired spoon-fed junk for the masses that the studios keep shoving down our throats.

And I just realized that this was the only movie I actually went to see in the theater this year besides Raiders of the Lost Ark. Sad to say the latter is my pick for best film of 2007 and it's 26 years old

One thing I totally agree with you on is they don't make films like Raiders anymore.:rock:rock:rock

I'll agree that there is plenty wrong with Hollywood and lack of imagination is certainly one of them. I enjoy many films today including Transformers, but I am still turned off a bit that Hollywood has so lost imagination that their only ideas come from existing property, theme rides, comics, films done so long ago people are curious about updating them. One of the best original films that's come along in a good while to me would be Gladiator, we hadn't seen anything in that genre for a good ammount of time and it was a bit of a rebirth. I enjoyed the Matrix, but the onslaught of overused effects that started is a bit disgusting to me, and part of what makes them cool in the first place is being unique, they lose they're flavor after the billionth time, and in fact, it got so crazy, even Shrek made fun of it.

Everyone will have different taste in film, and hollywood will do whatever it likes and we the masses have only the option of choosing what we do or don't like that gets made, and as long as something works to make money, which is the big driving factor behind most film now, then that's what we'll see. Cameron and Scott and even OT/semi PT George Lucas made their best stuff with no expectation for success, but rather had visions and regardless of the outcome, they made their art, but now you can see that most hollywood production meetings probably center around profit and the art is set aside.

The trouble is, unless more artistic films can get past the hollywood big wigs, the public won't be aware of alternatives, and they may be ready for creativity and imagination the likes of which modern hollywood doesn't offer, but they can only want what they know can be had, and that's the Pirates and Spider-Man's and Transformers. It doesn't make society degraded for being able to enjoy those types of films, they aren't artistic, but they are fun to watch, and sometimes good old fashion brain dead fun is a good thing to have, reality is so ****ed up these days, I gladly welcome a few hours to get lost in world unlike what I go through day to day and forget about things, but I'd also welcome something new and inspiring to see that came from imagination and creativity.

I just saw this movie tonight and I thought it was ok. The graphics and fights scenes were great, but the plot as expected of Bay was thin and unimaginative. I was hoping for more dialogue amongst the Transfomers and less of the lame jokes.
