Word. Though since I'm a little older (32 in a week and a half) I do have the good fortune of remembering seeing ANH during its original theatrical run. Due to the magic of that first film my "favorite of the saga" rotates between ESB, ROTS, and ANH (pretty much which ever one I'm watching at the time. ;))

Yeah, my first viewing experience as a child was the second theatrical run of Jedi and it left a stamp on my life, even giving me the direction to pursue a career in film. I owe much of my creativity to the saga, Empire especially.

I wish I'd been able to see the films on the big screen as a child. I didn't get that privilege until the 1997 SE's.

Although, I do remember re-enacting the Wampa escape as a small child back in 1985-86 (before I was even in kindergarten)... :lol

I never said "ENOUGH WITH THE JEDI" though. That was Magic Giraffe who started the thread.
I'd like to add, that the "ENOUGH WITH THE JEDI" was part of a very catchy title. A+ for style, since it does perfectly what a title should: draw people's attention. Doesn't feel like whining to me.

I'd also like to see a hiatus on the Jedi (except for Yoda) and more Sith and armored figures (Clonetroopers, Fetts, etc).

I guess when I asked for a hiatus, that was too whiny and not constructive enough. Oh wait a second...yeah, I think I did ask for other lines to get stepped up and have Order of the Jedi put on the backburner for a little while.

I guess some people just don't fully read posts before shooting their mouths off.

I'll simply reply with a requote of your post, Darth Loki (with a few key phrases highlighted for emphasis...

Yeah, it sounds like you accused us of "whining", "crying", and "b**ching". So, yeah I did put some thought into my post.

Again, I'll repeat what I said above...

I guess some people just don't fully read posts before shooting their mouths off.

So please, get over yourself and let those of us with polite, rational opinions have our chance to speak as well. Thank you.

Shooting my mouth off? I have remaind pretty civil here and will continue to do so. I am well aware of who stared this thread and also well aware that he was the one who said "ENOUGH WITH THE JEDI". I was using his thread title to refer to whining. Not anything you said.

I understand why you feel the way you do, but it's also obvious that the Jedi line was the 1st announced so there should be more figures from that line so far.

As Loki pointed out there have been several announcements for other figures since the last Jedi and Plo Koon. The announcements are pretty even now that there are several lines. It feels Jedi dominated because they were first when in reality, now, it's pretty even as far as the new announcements go.

As I stated before, the other lines will still be chugging along well after the Jedi line has dried up due to the sheer number of characters the other lines have to offer.

It's probably in SS's plan to hold back a little on the OT characters and then unleash a bunch next year with it being the 30 year mark for Star Wars. I would just like to see people sit back, relax and enjoy the ride instead of being so critical or something most of us love.

At least we all know that we still have a lot to look forward to in the coming months and years.

Honestly I could go for some more baddies but don't mind the Jedi. Although I do agree with Sith Lord, armoured figures would be pretty cool right about now!

I'd be down for a couple more Sith and some armored figures. I really want some Clones, Stormies, and Sandtroopers as I've already said.

I will say that the OT made a huge impact on a lot of folks but I will say we don't know the impact of the PT just yet a lot of people who saw those are still growing up. TPM came out when I was a junior in HS and ROTS came out right as I got out of College. So that's ranging from 17 to 23. I know so many kids at the Day Care I worked at their favorite characters are all from the PT. So again we have no idea the impact of the PT.

Having said that this is why I find people saying how bad the PT is. Because I'm sure many adults said the same thing back in the day when the OT came out. Which is why I say just enjoy it. These are made for the enjoyment of us all not to pick apart.

IMHO, I think a lot of those PT kids will grow up and rewatch them and have the same reaction I did when I rewatched 'The Lost Boys' as an adult - "Oh my god, I actually thought that was a good movie? Sheesh, what hamfisted storytelling." :monkey4

I doubt it. There are plenty of things in the OT that are shaky and those seem to get overlooked all the time by folks who are OT only. It's Star Wars I expect it to be shaky in parts. That's one of the things I love about it. :lol

The difference with OT nostalgia is that at the time there was nothing else like Star Wars. The variety of bizarre creatures, the spaceship designs, the special effects, it was all so different from the flying saucers and rocketships that came before it. The first time we saw that massive star destroyer on the big screen it was a revelation. Kids these days are so inundated with technology, sci-fi and amazing special effects that I just don't see it having the same impact on them as the OT did on us old timers. The fact that the prequels are a non-entity in today's pop culture is a good indicator of that.

I still remember sitting in the theater with my father as we watched that Star Destroyer fly overhead for what seemed like forever. The fact that I still collect almost 30 years later shows the impact it had on me.

As opposed to Spaceballs where it really did fly forever... :lol

Just different times. As you said back in '77 when SW came out it impacted things more because we hadn't seen it. To expect the same immediate impact from the PT when as you said yourself everyone is kind of used to it. Over the long haul though I do think it will have a pretty decent impact on kids. I know a lot that love talking to me about the PT and want to know all they can. In the end if it brings more kids into liking SW and other films of this genre isn't that the most important thing?

As I've said PT+OT=SW.:D

True.... it left a huge impact on me as well... and that was at home on the TV. :lol

The PT didn't impact me as much as the OT, but that's only because I grew up with the OT. I can definitely see how the PT could have the same impact on kids today as the OT did on me back in '77.

As unfairly maligned as the Phantom Menace was and is, I don't think anyone saw the lightsaber battles and the pod-race and didn't think they were impressive. Especially kids who may have never seen the OT before the PT.

And even though I still lean towards the OT for sentimental reasons, I take all six movies as being Star Wars. Therefore, give me all the Jedi!

I used the letters "OT" and "PT" a lot in this post.

I confess to being a little dissappointed when Plo Koon was announced, even though I'm sure he will be a great figure.

He's just not on my list of "must-haves." We've all got different lists, and I'm sure a lot of us were overjoyed by Plo coming up.

I'm not sure I agree wit the idea that Jedi are easier to make. There isn't that much re-use as far as I can see. And you can't tell me Kit Fisto wasn't a nightmare to realize as a fully functioning toy.

It's all Star Wars to me. In my mind, I've stopped seperating the OT from the PT. I'm just excited for any new announcement. Especially wqhen it's a character from MY list!!

It's weird that now that I've had the time to watch all the prequels over and over again, The Phantom Menace is probably my favorite. (please don't hurt me). It just feels the most like a fun space opera to me and doesn't get bogged down in the type of dialogue that is really heavy in ep2 and ep3. Plus Hayden wasn't in it.

What kids love about the prequel trilogy are all the lightsabers. That's something that the OT lacked a lot of and they'll probably argue against the OT in that respect.

In the end, Jedi are fun because they have lightsabers. And that's why they'll always sell decently.
