Re: Olympics 2012 - Opening Ceremony

Anyone else watching it?

At first i was was kinda meh but once all the smoke stack were up and the rings came together and Bond with Her Majesty, it was so cool.

The Tribute to GOSH is fantastic, such a brilliant hospital, spend alot of my young life there :monkey2

Wow...the opening was meh until a tacky stunt? Seriously? :lol The visuals and music for the opening transition between the pastoral and industrial grabbed me.

Re: Olympics 2012 - Opening Ceremony

I am loving it so far. I thought it was boring at first, but after the revolution, it picked up. I don't think many can top Beijing in 2008, though. That was one of the best performances I've seen.

Re: Olympics 2012 - Opening Ceremony

Watching it right now. Was pretty cool as it usually is. I love the Olympics in general but I really love watching the US dominate the summer games.

Re: Olympics 2012 - Opening Ceremony

Re: Olympics 2012 - Opening Ceremony

Absolutely loved how they did the Olympic torch. That was amazing! Brought tears to my eyes. :monkey2

Re: Olympics 2012 - Opening Ceremony

I didn't really enjoy this one as much as I did 2008.

Re: Olympics 2012 - Opening Ceremony

Can't wait to watch the US edited version where they like to trim things to suit the US, and focus as much on the US team as much as possible, and cut to commercial when they feel like and talk over the announcers at the show. :rotfl

I was in England during the 80's Olympics. Talk about editing! The only Olympics I saw while there was the sports that England was doing great in. What a bunch of BS! At least in the US you get to see it all, or as much of it as possible. Not just what the US is doing good in.

Re: Olympics 2012 - Opening Ceremony

The 2012 opening was way better then Vancouvers 2010. Ours IMO looked cheaply produced. Really like the Rowlen Atkinson & the Bond scene. However nothing beats the Beijing opening. Probably one of the best ever and very memorable.

I think they could have chosen different musicians. There are plenty of well known British singers and they end up with Paul McCartney, a rap artist I'd never heard of and Emile singing a rather boring song.

The Torch lighting was really well done.

I enjoyed it. It was interesting - cheesy at some points but I enjoyed it for what it was.

Fan girled the hell out when I saw Kobe Bryant. It's always extremely exciting for me to see him in non-NBA related events.. :yess::yess:

You say that like they settled. Paul McCartney singing a Beatles song was awesome!

Re: Olympics 2012 - Opening Ceremony

It was ____.

I thought it was the olympics hosted by the UK? Like, could it have been a more communist opening? Where was the britishness? Why didnt we have a Vulcan flying over with the red arrows? Where was the rolling stones or Pink Floyd? Paul mcartney who cant even sing and was ____e anyway. A laughably terrible 'queen' parachuting down? Why didnt we have old minis doing a drive in as a reference to Italian job; quintessentially british and iconic film? We have a strong history in automotive and motorsport, why was there nothing of that? The james bond thing was more insulting than funny.

Britain through the ages? Nice thought, but it was still rubbish.

Danny boyle of all people, spent £27million on this utter wank? He only had 2 films that were actually good; Trainspotting and 28 days later, and we've paid this tosser to blow our money on this crap?

Muse, who were once great, made an absolutly horrible 'olympics official song theme thing' thats just laughable. Its just an utter waste of money. £11billion were spending on this crap, £11billion which could be spent on improving our roads, getting more nurses not the tossers who do 3-day a week and go on holiday all the time GP's and 100k a year doctors, we could have put money into better education and actually improving half the schools which are falling down, EMA couldve returned and we would still have over half of that money left.

This country has gone to ____. all the money spent on this crap......

Re: Olympics 2012 - Opening Ceremony

Out of the lot, the only person, aside from Rowan Atkinson, who deserved to be there was Tim Berners-Lee. This is the man who gave birth to Hypertext Transfer and Markups.
