I'm the biggest Whedon fan there is - but the shows that this forum were created for are gone, the collectibles are non-existent except for an occasional cartoon maquette from QMX, and it makes it difficult for new members.

Everyone is always saying they don't want to see unnecessary subdivisions like some other forums have. I'm just trying to streamline the whole thing and make it more user friendly.

I don't see how this forum makes anything less user friendly. And in fact, there's other issues with the board that makes it less user friendly. Like the inconsistencies with the forum list between the front page and everything else.

exactly how does a Whedon forum make anything difficult for a new member? They come on, they look around, they either see Whedonville and recognize the name and stop by, or they don't and move on to a section they do recognize. I don't see anyone getting trapped in here and not able to get out.

As many other people have pointed out in this thread and others, if your goal is to make things more user friendly, a separate Hot Toys section would greatly help that. I could very easily see new users coming in and looking for a 1/6 figure or Hot Toys section and being confused when they can't find it. Not to mention it completely clutters up the Marvel and DC sections. I can't stand having to wade through pages of Hot Toys threads to find the statue thread I am looking for.

I tend to agree with csi. I don't feel Whedonville hinders the 'flow' of the Boards in the slightest. If anything, it's sections like Marvel and D.C. that need an overhaul. The Hot Toys threads are so plentiful and have taken on such a life of their own in recent years that the problem lies there, IMO. I'm not saying that they need to go, but a sub-section (at the very least) would make things a lot easier, from a user's perspective. Whedonville, on the other hand, is arguably the most 'neat and tidy' of all sections.

And while market releases of products from Buffy, Angel, Firefly, etc. have declined tremendously, the fan base on this Forum (albeit small) is strong.

I don't feel shutting down Whedonville is the answer. This section has been a 'staple' for the Boards long before I registered, and I hope it continues to remain one.

I admire that you are willing to read our opinions Darklord Dave. However, I'm still questioning your arguments. How is the board confusing? Have new members complained? Because I just don't see how it's that confusing.

A member enters, looks around, sees Buffy & Firefly threads, figures it mainly for those shows, but remember that Dollhouse is a Whedon show and starts a thread about it. I the issue that they might not dare too, because there's too many Buffy/Firefly threads? Then a longer description might help, with more of a variety of Whedon's projects?

If I may be so bold, can you elaborate on why you feel this forum makes it difficult for new members?

New members are going to be obtuse no matter what, in my estimate. You have people asking how to paint eyeballs in the Forum Quetions section and people starting "I just had lunch with a sculptor" in General Collectibles. You will always have these people posting in the wrong sections in even the most organized forums.

At this point, I would only ask that you address the current concerns of the community that have long been requested, namely a separate Hot Toys forum, and then re-organizing Predator, Alien and Terminator into their own respective subforums. Then once that dust settles, revisit the scenario and see if Whedonville is still confusing. I have a sneaking suspicion that the more 'easily confused' of the membership here will have moved onto one of the new forums.

If your argument for closing Whedonville is that there's too little product to support it, then the converse of that is plenty enough argument to support a separate Hot Toys forum. Their product is so prevalent and bringing in so many members here that it needs its own community.

:peace

It would be easier for new members to find Angel or Buffy or Firefly related threads if they are buried in a General Discussion section with what is currently 5.635 other threads.

:lol

As an aside. personally, I don't understand the request for a HT section. Does manufacturer matter or does topic matter?

Are we saying that HT Bespin Luke Skywalker needs to be in a section along with HT Wolverine and HT Avatar and HT Terminator?

Or is Luke Skywalker a SW related item, Wolverine a Marvel related item and Terminator an Aliens/Robots item?

I can see creating new sections to cover any topics not currently covered, but why move all HT items to its own section?

How about a sub-section within each section for non-sideshow made/designed collectibles?

I really don't see a need to separate HT from SSC within sixth scale collectors. Its the same people collecting both HT and SSC for the most part.

If we really need more segregation, I would lean more towards separating it by type of collectible, ie statues vs sixth scale.

That option sounds good too. I was just thinking how lots of people complain about how they can't find sideshow's own designs among all the hot toy threads. They might be interested in both, but it could still be hard to find.

Because when I go into the DC section and want to do a search for a thread relating to a Batman statue, I end up with a ton of Batman related HT threads and custom 1/6 Batman threads. Same when I go looking for a specific Marvel statue, or a particular HT figure for that matter. It basically makes using the search function useless. If Hot Toys or 1/6th was in its own forum, or a sub forum of each Parent forum (Marvel, DC) then it would make searching a whole lot easier.

Let me ask this, how many SSC designs are being released that do not fall within the following licenses? Star Wars, GI Joe, Marvel, DC?

I'll be blunt, it's not the manufacturer that is the issue at hand. It's the collectors. Basically, I'm being racist. I want Hot Toys segregated to its own board.

I grow increasingly tired of the rock star worship of Hot Toys on this forum and I wish it would go away. It's just starting to feel like the National Enquirer with all this gossip and what delay or whining about how the thread snagged and it's shoddy materials or a piece fell off and it's poor QC. But every time there's a new product for pre-order, it's "BOUGHT!!"

I still argue it's sifting through all the bazillion Hot Toys (product, wishlist, QC, custom) threads trying to find other products that makes it confusing. Give HT their own subforum, and a sub-subforum for HT customs, and you'll clean this place up overnight. :huh

QFT :exactly:

There are a lot of 1/6 collectors on this board and SSC has seriously cut back on their 1/6 offerings and quite frankly HT has no real competition unfortunately. I thing SSC definitely has the talent to challenge them but I think they are clearly going more toward statues. Thats why there is so much HT love as well as a nearly equal amount of rage over HT prices. This board has always been a place where you need some thick skin, but Whedon projects have always received even greater ridicule. This is just a little place that sits off by itself. If you have it here, the members may get some exposure to other collectibles. If its closed they will likely just leave the board completely.
