While this is indeed a tragedy just as many people died on the road yesterday. I would like to see what would happen if the media didn't give these acts so much attention. That is where i would start.

Dying on the road does not equal murder, as this is what it actually happened.

I understand that but these types of people prey on fear and the media delivers their wishes to us.

What I hate about this, is that the mother****er's picture is now all over. No media outlet should ever release that.

Yeah, it just empowers another loser to do the same thing..and try to beat the previous number of deaths. Report it and be done with it. No need for 24/7 broadcast that serves to make them infamous for another deranged mind. Note the similarities in the rise of the information age and these mass shootings.

I agree. Or if they do show him, show him dead and shot up.

They should only release his photo if the person is still at large.

Nothing will change. If two dozen dead children couldn't change hearts and minds, then it clearly doesn't matter who gets shot, or in what number, these things will be allowed to continue to happen, and all we'll see in the aftermath of each and every new tragedy is the same mix of hand wringing, public political mourning, and finger pointing, until the latest tragedy falls out of the media cycle, and can be conveniently pushed aside by our esteemed leaders and forgotten. Then, as the shattered families try to pick up the pieces, everyone else will go about their business until the next time, when another group of innocent people gets their lives viciously stolen away by some nutter with a gun and a grudge, and it'll be back to the hollow political theatre of no actual consequence. And around and around it will go, how many must die, nobody knows. But it will be more. Sadly, tragically, unquestionably, it will always be more.

Personally I find the inevitability that nothing will change, no matter how much blood is on the streets, to be soul-crushingly depressing. But sadly, I can't even pretend to be surprised by it any more.

Just one example of the problem.

Kinda afraid to type terro***m and b**b into Google right now to find more magazine covers.

Isn't that just disgusting, makes me sick looking at that photo of him and even sicker that the media company would do that in the first place.

Nothing will change because of the people that "lead" this country. If the culture isn't willing to change, nothing will. This country is full of acceptance of violence and hatred. It's 2016 and racism and discrimination is as rapid as ever. Nothing changes, it only cycles back around. And someone posted earlier, putting more guns into peoples hands is not the solution imo.

What do you suggest should happen? You can ban all guns in the US. Take them all out and people like him will bring them in from Mexico where a lot of illegal guns come. They'd just use bombs. Ban all things that can make bombs then? You can't legislate crazy. You just can't.

someone who is on a FBI watch list should not be allowed guns like this shooter was. I hate guns, but I don't think banning them outright is the answer as well.

Or so the media wants you to believe.

They haven't determined how or where he got the guns. He was a security guard, so he had access to weapons. I'm not sure how the watch list works either. From what they said, he wasn't under any investigations.

We have the the Second Amendment of US Constitution to thank for this. The damn british terrorized our forefathers so much they were stupid enough to give anyone and everyone guns. You want to kill red coats, here take a gun. Then when all the red coats are gone you need to keep these guns "just in case" they come back...and now that we know there are never comming back we'll let you still keep them. Granted our forefathers werent talking about concealed weapons because concealed weapons didn't exist back then. Pretty tough to hide a rifle or musket- but who wants to hide a gun anyway?? Oh ya those that kill people or plan to use them to commit a crime.. but i digress. We cannot use logic we must leave the constitution alone, even though it is not relevant to the times or to the types guns that exist today. We can't take those guns away, never know when the evil red coats may come back- in the meantime, innocent people are shot while watching movies, dancing, walking in the park, working.. it's ridiculous.. there is no need for hand guns or other smaller weaponry, if it can be cancealed it should be outlawed. I have no problems with rifles, shot guns or other larger firearms.

The one type of gun that baffles me regular citizens can have are assault rifles. Imagine if there were 2 or 3 people in this Orlando incident. Automatic assault rifles are the main guns used in these shootings no?
