^I wonder if that's related in any way.

I'm watching news on the shooting right now, pretty disturbing s***.

What a nightmare. At least one person I know was killed, as was his boyfriend, and a couple others I know are unaccounted for. I never in a million years thought this would happen someplace that I called home. My heart hasn't felt so heavy since 9/11.

How about we ban Muslims. :dunno

I'm gonna have to find the link, but I read a statement an while ago that the father of the Orlando shooter was angry over 2 men kissing in public in front of him and his 3 year old son.

~~Found it:

Mir Seddique, Mateen’s father told NBC News, “this has nothing to do with religion.” Seddique said his son got angry when he saw two men kissing in Miami a couple of months ago and thinks that may be related to the shooting. “We are saying we are apologizing for the whole incident. We weren’t aware of any action he is taking. We are in shock like the whole country,” Seddique said.

considering the guy grew up in NY, his parents prolly had a big impact on his hatred towards gays and ISIS just gave him the outlet for it.

I'm sorry for your loss man. This is indeed a tragic day. I was just down there for Megacon the other week, and it's shocking to know this happened to my old stomping grounds.

There are two issues with gun laws. First, people acquiring guns who shouldn't have them (mentally ill, domestic abusers, murderers). There was a proposal to keep people off the no fly list from buying weapons. It went nowhere to as it was argued as unfair to the people on the no fly list. Let that sink in.

The second issue is the type of weapons that are commercially available to civilians- i.e. high capacity magazines. In my opinion These types of weapons are unnecessary for hunting or home defense. These are weapons designed to kill as many X as possible. So why do civilians need this kind of firepower? Having a 5+1 shotgun just isn't as cool. It doesn't impress the other boys the way an AR-18 does.

In my state acquiring a high capacity weapon or clip is impossible. Same for a conceal carry or an automatic shotgun. There is an extensive mental health background check and the law excludes convicted felons. And I have no problem with it.

So does that stop every crime committed with a gun? Of course not. But I'm sure it has stopped many people who shouldn't have a gun from getting their hands on one.

Any proof or statistics of this notion? Not saying I agree or disagree, I just find these kinds of sweeping statements pretty amusing.

"Assault" is the go to word when it comes to these cases. Politicians want to ban firearms you see in movies, while standard hunting rifles are equally as capable. Just enforce the laws that are already there, there's enough of them.

How many people can a pencil kill in a short amount of time before the person behind the attacks are stopped?

You really think a pencil could do this attack? With this logic, everything is a weapon. Lamps, xbox controllers, statues, a diecast Iron Man Hot Toy.

Founding fathers created the second amendment on the basis that majority of guns were single shot muskets, pistols, and long rifles. Majority of which were dual purposed for war and hunting. Guns were a way of life... back then. I doubt if they could see the destruction modern guns do today and the purpose they are used for, that they would have passed the second amendment.

Second chance to ban guns was in the 60s when JFK was pushing for some form of it. That didn't happen.

Pretty much impossible to do anything about it now. Guns carried by public citizens, to my knowledge, have never stopped a mass shooter before, so I don't understand the point of carrying them. I would bet guns carried by public citizens have done more harm than good as well.

Actually they do. The M40 rifle has been in service since the 60s, and a trained marksman can shoot with effect at a rapid pace. I've actually gone hunting with my M1 Garand, which is a WWII battle rifle so I'm not sure what your point is. I've never seen an AR-15 in combat, but I think you're confused with the M4 or M16. Which are different than the civlian AR-15s.
You're talking about trained marksmen but most of these homegrown terrorists are not trained shooters to that capacity so the efficiency of these weapons makes up for any individual limited talents in the same vein as to why 13 year old gangsters can kill grown men without prior training if using a particularly efficient firearm as these semi automatic "assault" weapons. My point is without easy access to these weapons and limiting public access to shotguns and handguns any mass shooting victims may be reduced because of the more limited kill capacity of these smaller arms.

''Civilian'' AR-15 <- That the word ''civilian'' can be paired with the name of any gun whatsoever is utterly bizarre to most people outside America. It is seriously unreal to us.

Thank you. I wish I'd known you were coming, as I had an artist table in Artist Alley. :)

Radical Islam is never the problem, it's those those dirty hateful guns that hate people for some reason that are the real isis...I mean...issue.

It's hard to believe the LA and FL cases aren't related at all. From the weapons they are saying he had, along with chemicals, just as many could be dead in LA today, if not more. Since ISIS has shown up on the radar, terrorism is getting scarier and stronger. Media and technology makes it easier for these scum to send their message.

I dont know that anyone from the country that gave the World the IRA should be casting stones.
