I consider myself an ally to the LGBTQ community. This is just so sad. I just hate when **** like this happens. As a parent, it's a worst nightmare. Unfortunately, there's no way to stop unwarranted attacks on the innocent. Take away guns, they use bombs. Take bombs away, they use chemicals. Take chems away, they use knives. Take knives away, they will use stones. The point is, if someone wants to kill others, they will find a way regardless of what's banned. In the age of 3-D printers, there's no way to stop this kind of ****.

It's hard to believe the LA and FL cases aren't related at all. From the weapons they are saying he had, along with chemicals, just as many could be dead in LA today, if not more. Since ISIS has shown up on the radar, terrorism is getting scarier and stronger. Media and technology makes it easier for these scum to send their message.
There is no connection unless its that two people who hate so much they will kill innocent people. James Wesley Howell certainly sounds like someone who joined ISIS and really looks like someone who would join ISIS.

:goodpost:

There's actually people making home made AR15 receivers with those. I'm very pro gun, but it always needs to be on the books without question.

There's haters everywhere. That is a fact. There's pieces of **** out there, that live only to make others life's miserable. There's people disagreeing with others way of life, and that's ok.

But what makes someone kill innocent people? Complete strangers?

sure there are haters out there, but terror attacks like this are organized and they are following a specific belief, a holy belief. there is a big difference with some crazy guy shooting a mall because his dog told him to do it than an organized, radical, religious group committing crimes. a group with a message, with a purpose...

I hate when people say "Well, crazy people be crazy :dunno" . these people, i dont think they are crazy. not in the "talking to you dog" sense. that's the scary part. they are not crazy and they believe they are doing the right thing.

why would someone have to look or have a name that sounds middle eastern to be a ISIS supporter? I haven't looked up the guy, and it doesn't matter what he looks like or what his name is, it's not impossible for non middle eastern people to believe in the ISIS cause.

When the Bill of Rights was ratified we also spoke in public assembly, and they had no idea about computers/internet. Should they also ban those forms of communication? If you can't use the same logic to strip the other amendments, then the logic doesn't work.

Not necessarily. Computers didn't cause the deaths of 475 people on 372 different occasions last year.
You can't point a computer at someone and press the on button and kill them.
Sure, you could drive someone to suicide through cyber bullying but that's not as wide spread as mass shootings, nor as regular a problem.
I think an exception should be made to something that's contributing to this plague on society.

It worked well for Australia, obviously things are different in the U.S. with gun runners on the Mexican border, but that border could be enforced better. Not with a wall, just with more people preventing the passage of drugs and firearms. I'm no expert on American border protocols, though.

After living in an Australia that hasn't had a mass shooting in twenty years, there's got to be something to this.

The trick is making hurdles for this type of thing. Take away guns and someone can't just go to Walmart and buy a bunch of bombs instead. And knives couldn't have done what was done in Florida by one man. It is far too easy to kill lots of people in this country.

My point is without easy access to these weapons and limiting public access to shotguns and handguns any mass shooting victims may be reduced because of the more limited kill capacity of these smaller arms.

Didn't work out so well for the people in Paris, Chicago, or Detroit. That's the fallacy of the high cap ban. The same damage could have been obtained with 10 round mags. If someone wants to kill/harm someone badly enough they'll find a way to do it.

I guess you never heard of the mass stabbings in China?

Why would you assume anyone who wants to hurt gays is ISIS? The dude is from Indiana and looks like a hick. Sorry he wasn't part of ISIS. He had a reason to hate gays, what ever that be I doubt it was Islam. He could just as likely be a Christrian terrorist but I know we don't really worry about them.

Careful, they're probably looking for some reason why your opinion can't count for anything. And they'll be happy with even the most tenuous one :lol

That's why I used the word "hurdles," not everyone is the unibomber and maybe one of these idiots would blow themselves up in the process.

And give me a break regarding the mass stabbings, the example you just cited had 8 and 2 deaths mentioned.

When you live on a island, you can keep out whatever you want. Thing is, even in Australia, violence has gone up.

Australia's is a very different culture when it comes to how we view our government and how we view our constitution. The type of gun control laws implemented in '96 wouldn't have a chance of getting up in the US.

By some logic computers are the cause of deaths all the time, smart pheasant cause deaths all the time when people are paying attention driving and using phones. Those cause way more deaths than guns but that's ok because we all like are smart phones and cars.
Somewhere close to 20 times more people died in drunk driving accidents. Those are also ok since we like alcohol and cars.

The he idea that we need to take guns away because they cause deaths is short sighted as those who say only say it because they don't like them. Could you imagine the outrage if they didn't even ban things but made madatory systems to disable a phone while in car. What about all cars are required to have a brethaleizer so you can't start the car unless you sobber?

I know that no place is totally immune to violence but this is exactly one of the reasons I got my kids out of Florida. You guys hear the stories that make national news (of which there are a ridiculous amount) but there are that much more that you don't even hear about unless you live down there. I hated it.

So 9/11 was no big deal since that year there were far more vehicle deaths? Obviously more could be done with vehicle safety but here's a difference between accidental death and mass murder.
