Honestly, it's a cheap trick to try to get more people to watch the award show...well, to get more young people to watch the awards show. In the paper, they had a graph of the rating over the past 20 years and nowadays, it's in the toilet. Since nobody has even seen any of the films up for nomination, they don't bother to watch it.
While, there are films that can be argued should be nominated (The Dark Knight as one), these films have less than 0% chance of winning anything. The actual films that people see, don't have a chance at such a pretentious and snobbish awards show.
At least someone running the show doesn't have their head up their ass, at least they want to find a way to get people to watch
