In the first movie when he dragged that tanker boat you felt the weight. When he swung that tanker you felt it. When that tanker connected with its target you felt it.

In this movie they would swing stuff like they were doing it on the moon lol.

The first movie was on FX or something the other day so I watched the Hong Kong battle and was actually quite blown away with how impressive the visuals looked. The jaegers and kaiju did indeed appear to have so much weight to them. Not so in the new one?

Wow they're just running through the city like Ezra Miller Flash in slow-motion. And I already promised my son I'd take him to see this on the big screen this Thursday. Sigh, looks like I'm in for a fun 90 minutes, lol.

Yeesh, the flow seems more dumbed down in SFX compared to the first one. Looks more like Bay’s Transformers without the intense effects

and remember, this scene is the best part of the movie and where most of the action happens. before this there's like an hour of nothing happening but Boyega being Boyega and Charlie day being crazy. the other action scenes are Jaeger vs Jaeger which looks just like transformers.

There are the other only two fight scenes that the trailers and clips spoiled

I think the biggest discrepancy with the weighted feel of this movie from the first is the thought process behind each moving part on the Jaegers in the first film. You can tell a lot of attention was given to each piston movement...or gear...or exhaust port... on Gipsy Danger even when it's just standing up. Add to that all of the ancillary sound design and it really built up the jaegers personality. In Uprising, everything is just a bit to smooth of a transition. I get it's 10 years later and it's advanced tech yadda yadda, but that was a huge part that made the first films Jaegers feel tangible.

Compare the clip you posted to this clip from the first.

Guillermo was the visual consultant/producer on the film...or so said the movie credits..I wonder how much input he actually had. I know he wanted to do Jaeger Kaiju hybrids, so I wonder how much of him made it into this film, because there's definitely a disconnect.

I cancelled my PO of SHF Gypsy Avenger.

That's actually a really great toy...but it's the only figure I have or will be getting from this movie...all the rest are meh.

Maybe I'll get the kaiju..who knows...who cares :lol

del toro leaves the hobbit and the hobbit turns to cgi boring garbage
del toro leaves pacific rim and sequel equally turnts to cgi boring garbage... jesus

I had that SHF GA in my hand yesterday it was damn hard to put it back on the shelf and walk away lol

Look at that clip from YT look at their ******* transitions, look at that mech sliding in then getting up that’s NOT a 400 foot mech that’s Usain Bolt getting ready to run a race lol

Boyega sounded like a bad ass though calling out those call signs.

The mech fights are unquestionably mech. I think they just took it in a more anime direction than the first movie. I caught Gundam, Patlabor and Evangelion vibes from a lot of the action.

yeah thats basically how it looks, but as a sequel it fails.

I Was thinking about it the other day, and if this was not a sequel and was just a new anime adaptation of Gundam or something I think I might have liked it (without Boyega and Eastwood maybe) a different story with the exact same visuals and same exact fights could have been amazing

If they had made me care about these people i could have loved those silly fights. I just cannot stop my mind from thinking of the jaeger from the first one in comparison to this

What happened to the orange juice helmets? Do they not need those to drift anymore?

That's ridiculous! Especially the one that slides in from off screen.... it looks more like power rangers now :lol

Good observation!

BTW, for the people who've seen it, did they go into the other dimension again or delve into any of that? I was most looking forward to that in the sequel...

now they dont even connect to the jaeger with those needles to the spine they used ,
they just hop in and start moving :lol:lol

the helmets dont even have that clear part in the front either :lol

they are literally like bike helmets now

They mention it, and it's where the new creatures come from, but nothing more. It sounds like they'll delve into it with the next one.

ok heres the thing.
90% of the movie they dont talk about it, they dont mention it, it is closed.
then at the end they open it for 3 minutes in a really stupid stupid way, it gets closed and a couple of monsters come out. thats the end of it.
it was so quick if you arent pay attention you will miss it.
