Ya, in the right lighting or from a distance, Maul's eyes are effective. I love my Maul bust, but I can see and agree with those who see the eyes on the 1:1 busts as an area with room for improvement, probably the only flawed area.

Here's my Maul bust, looks pretty good zoomed out.

Same photo, at full pixels to show the eyes closeup.

Now, had his eyes been done as detailed as the films and the bust eyes executed in the same manner as the T-800 bust, the Maul bust would have gone from awesome to a level that couldn't be described.

The issue is, with Maul, the eyes are important, but not so much defining. His tattoos and horns make his whole face a complete look that you take in as a whole. With Palpatine, so much was defined by facial expression and specifically eye expression, in ROTJ, so the eyes become a crucial detail in that bust. I'll be happy with this bust and get it regardless because of how much and how long I've wanted it done, but I stand with my bretheren hoping for the eyes to be the best they can be.

MaulFan, thanks for the pics. In the end, Maul is an incredible piece, and quite eye-catching. Wish I had one, truth be told. And the room to display them. I think he and Palps will look good together!

Ya, once I have Palpatine, Maul will go on Display hooded as well, not accurrate, but matching somewhat to the Maul-Sidious discussion in TPM.

My biggest disappoinment with the Yoda 1:1 bust is the difference between the eyes on the prototype and the final version. The eyes I saw at SDCC were what gave it the real living, breathing feel that made it a must order. The final version didn't look as good. It's still a great piece and I love having it in my office, but the eyes didn't ultimately look as good as they could have.

This is actually what drove me to cancel yoda. Palpatine is my fav. character - lets hope his 1:1 doesnt go down the same road. :monkey2:monkey2

I have a good feeling about this bust. This is such a high profile character and the 1:1 line is usually a chance for them to do great things.

If it turns out good I'll display it with my Sanda print:

Wish I had ordered that print :(

I'm considering buying this bust on Flex Pay.

I thought about that print, but I just couldn't appreciate the composition enough. If it were cheaper I might have bit, but for the price I couldn't spend that without realyl digging it. Tsanda did each character beautifully, but something about the arrangement blow and above the Vader / Sidious / Maul trio just doesn't sit right.

Other than changing Zam Wessel for Asajj Ventress I think he pretty much nailed the composition. Especially how he featured Boba Fett so predominantly.

I love the characters used, I guess I just prefer more dynamic arrangements along the lines of the theatrical posters, like Vanderstelt did for his CIV print. I like Tsanda's CIV print with like everyone in it, that one's got so many characters it works, I just think with so few in this one, a class photo style arrangement isn't the strongest composition.

Just curious, how can you add glass eyes to solid polystone?

From the looks of it (or at least on mine) they put the glass eye in and then add a layer of filler to complete the eye socket - blended quite seamlessly I might add.

Honestly, it does make a BIG difference or at least to me; Yoda has a very obvious dot matrix pattern when seen up-close, Arnie looks downright scary real!

I always thought the production eyes on the maul bust sucked. The could have been waaaay better for that price.

The Arnie looks fantastic, and I sure have hopes for that method to be used on Palpatine. This is certainly the first polystone, human-eyed bust since Maul, so there's room for great change in the years since him. I think Yoda might have been the same as Arnie, but I'm going to guess that the integrity and longevity of the Yoda production materials favored making the whole outter layer of his face out of the material they used, and then apply his eyes as they did, since his skin appears to be tones mixed into the foam materials and not painted on, his eyes and fingernails are the only areas of paint and his nails seem almost glued on.

I never got the Yoda bust, what is the outer layer made of?

It feels like rubber almost, but, I forgot exactly what, I think Dusty explained it, all I remember most is that it's material that should last for a long long time, more than rubber would.

Well Maulfan so It actually just doesn't sith right then :).:emperor
