I could really see them doing an ES of 1983, but that would mean A LOT of busts!

Not with this type of item unless they could be at least 85% sure that it would sell easily. I agree even 1000 could be a gamble, even the Maul bust may have sold less out of 1000 had it not been the first one. 500-700 would probably be a safe range for this.

750 is ideal. This is an old man in a black hood to the casual buyer. Not as visually striking as Darth Maul.

1000 to 1250 is still possible.

I don't think there is such a thing as a "casual buyer" for these busts. The entire line is for a niche market of a very limited number of fans crazy or wealthy enough to get these. I agree that 750 is probably a good number.

Agreed, for the type of collector that would buy a 1:1 bust, this one should actually be much more appealing than Greed and Bossk were. I predict this bust does well in the market.

I hope he has glass eyes, Mauls eyes look so dead and unreal in person.

I don't think so. In fact they're so scary real looking its not funny.

They are ok, but when you see in person what Sideshow did with the T2 Arnie; nothing comes close --- esp not Yoda, and well maybe Stan Winston helped out some.

:clap

I'm sure there are better eyes but Mauls are awesome 2 me.

Maul's and Yoda's eyes are fantastic from a distance but closer up you do notice how they were made. From what I've seen in pictures, the T2 bust has amazing eyes. HOPEFULLY, the Palpatine bust will feature similar, but if they're more like Maul's that's still acceptable as I'll be viewing this one from the same distance, I'm not going to get right up in his face all that much.

If they're like Mauls, then I'm going in with a touch-up brush.

I agree they're just simply great from a distance (Maul's anyways) but even up close they still look quite nice. I don't feel there's a problem with the eyes on Maul.

Well, as nice and semi-realistic as Maul's eyes are from a distance, it's the one part of the bust that hurts the selling of it being a live person once you get close enough, say 3-4' away. With a little more detail work, they'd really sing, and not sure how Sideshow did the T2 bust eye, but you definitely get a stronger feeling that it is an eye from that bust than the Maul bust.

Maybe a gloss would have given it just a little more of a umph it needed then but 4 me its just fine.

Gloss isn't so much what lacks, it's almost too uniform in the paint application, and doesn't give off the layering effect that a real eye has. There's no separate of eyelid and eye either. It's small touches that don't necessarily hurt the pieces significantly, but they're touches that if you improve upon them will just add that much more to the piece. Any work of art can always be better and your success as an artist is to grow from what doesn't work in past pieces and improve upon in successive pieces. Had Yoda not been constructed of materials to synthesize the puppet feel, I'm sure his eyes may have resembled the T2, they certainly feature more detail to them than Maul did. I think Palpatine's eyes will come out nicely.

mauls eyes look great.
they are nice en glosy to me well my maul is.
